Mortal Kombat 1 offers a variety of extensive revisions. The timeline constructed by Fire God Liu Kang differs greatly from what we had before, particularly in terms of character development in this round.
With so many changes, there are many questions you can ask yourself as you finish this part of the series. Many old characters returned and were introduced in the main story, paying tribute to Midway's original timeline. So, what can we expect now as NRS takes the helm?
9 What Happened To The Other Universe?
Despite the final battle, things remained quite unclear at the end of MK1 regarding what happened to Shang Tsung's universe, as he turned into tiny specks of dust. Was his timeline and all its inhabitants erased along with him? Does that mean the Titans we saw die throughout Armageddon also lost their respective universes?
Things seem somewhat uncertain, and you might start wondering if there are other variants of the Titans that still exist and could potentially return in a sequel.
8 Will Daegon And Taven Make An Appearance?
The demigods Daegon and Taven played a significant role in the mythology of the MK universe, and it would be logical to expect their presence in a game that includes niche characters like Ashrah and Darrius. Unfortunately, they have not yet appeared in the new timeline of Fire God Liu Kang.
Daegon founded the Black Dragon Clan, and Taven underwent a complete hero's journey to combat and defeat Blaze, only to be later removed from the story and instead killed off. Since their introduction in MK Armageddon, they have never returned as playable characters.
7 Will Blaze Ever Exist?
Since this multiversal event has now taken place and has been referred to as Armageddon, does that mean Blaze will never appear in this timeline? He was meant to be the entity that brings an end to all conflicts, and he was supposed to be defeated by a worthy warrior who would inevitably harness all his power.
At the moment, his existence seems unlikely, given the current circumstances. Blaze was a rather powerful entity, and he was the main reason the main timeline even reached its end, with many characters dying in the process of their struggle against him.
6 Will Hanzo Hasashi Lose His Family Again?
For an attentive observer paying attention to Smoke's fate in MK1, it wouldn't be difficult to notice that something is amiss when it comes to Scorpion's background in the old timelines. Now that Bi-Han is the founder of the Shirai Ryu, it is evident that he will eventually replace his new master.
Regardless, this ascent would imply that his backstory is being repeated, and he will once again lose his family, or would he seek the murder of the masters dear to him? With the limited information available to you, it is difficult to say whether he will uphold Scorpion's legacy or engage in shady dealings with Quan Chi.
5 Where Were Sonya Blade And Kano In Liu Kang's New Universe?
Since OIS did not exist during the course of the main story, one can essentially explain why Sonya is not part of the main roster this time, despite her role as a main character in every previous game. Without her, Cassie Cage wouldn't even exist.
That means Kano isn't really relevant, as he didn't play a major role until he killed Sonya's partner, and this event will likely repeat itself in this new timeline if NRS decides to retain it. With Jax and Kenshi leading the OIS, things could unfold differently.
4 Is The Shaolin Monks Campaign Also Another Universe?
Although the campaign of the Shaolin Monks was captivating and entertaining, Midway made it clear that the events of this story were not canonical. While the game was a great success in terms of cooperative gameplay, the story was also commendable.
Now that there is a possibility that the multiverse encompasses all sorts of mischief, it is not unwise to speculate whether the events of Shaolin Monks actually took place within the confines of another universe. Hopefully, we might even see a sequel to the game, despite Midway's lack of commitment.
3 Will Shujinko Help Shao Khan Free Onaga?
At the end of Kung Lao's ending, we get to see a young, hopeful Shujinko who lives up to his legacy as an exceptional fighter. Therefore, it is safe to assume that he will play an important role in the new timeline.
In the original timeline, before everything was changed, he was deceived and freed Onaga after collecting all the Kamidogus. If you have played the Konquest mode in MK Deception, you know that he spent the majority of his life trying to accomplish this.
2 Have Bi-Han And Kuai Liang's Backstories Been Retconned?
Bi-Han and Kuai Liang had the honor of becoming Grandmasters of the Lin Kuei, and they were both Cryomancer brothers before Liu Kang's new timeline reset everything. In the current situation, the new Scorpion cannot assume his role anymore as he has founded his own clan to protect Earthrealm.
NRS not only reversed their backstory but also rendered the events of MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero completely unnecessary. However, fans might still have the opportunity to see Kuai Liang become Noob Saibot in the next installment or a DLC, as his clan has shown interest in using cybernetic enhancements.
1 Will Liu Kang's Raiden Eventually Turn As Well?
In this new timeline, Raiden is much more humble and calm compared to his previous counterpart, which could indicate that he is weaker. In his final scene, Raiden clearly recognizes the immense power of his Titan form, fueled by anger, and it sounds as if he has been inspired to follow the same fate.
So it is safe to assume that despite his role as the champion of Earthrealm, he could be destined to repeat his role as a conflicted protagonist and antagonist in the upcoming games. Instead of witnessing Fire God Liu Kang becoming corrupted by his power, we may have to endure Raiden's fall from grace once again.
