A new leak suggests that Gotham Knights is being ported to the Nintendo Switch, providing additional support to earlier indications of a Switch version.
Fans believe that the rating on a Korean website indicates an official announcement of Gotham Knights for the Switch.
Although concerns exist regarding the graphical capabilities of the Switch, successful ports like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim provide some hope.
A recently leaked source provides further evidence that last year's Gotham Knights will be ported to the Nintendo Switch. Developed by WB Games Montreal, the same studio responsible for Batman: Arkham Origins, Gotham Knights presents a new universe in which Batman dies in battle, leaving the task of defending Gotham City to his various proteges: Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood. While the game incorporated some aspects of the acclaimed Batman Arkham series along with some new tricks, Gotham Knights divided players due to its focus on loot systems, a questionable user interface reminiscent of free-to-play mobile titles, and somewhat clunky combat mechanics.
Gotham Knights was originally released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, but there are indications that WB Games Montreal is working on bringing last fall's team-based superhero title to the Nintendo Switch as well. Earlier this month, the official ESRB website updated its Gotham Knights page and mentioned the Switch as an available platform. A similar rating for a Switch port has also surfaced in Singapore. Some fans interpreted this as a sign that this hypothetical Switch version of Gotham Knights could be announced soon, although it was completely absent from the Nintendo Direct livestream broadcast in September.
Now, the previously unconfirmed Nintendo Switch port of Gotham Knights has been discovered on a Korean review website, as reported by Comicbook.com. This is the second time a review website has mentioned the Nintendo Switch, with the first instance being the aforementioned Gotham Knights leak from Singapore. Such reviews typically appear before an official announcement, so many fans interpret this as a clear indication that WB Montreal is working on a Switch version of Gotham Knights, even though it has not been officially announced yet. The Korean website has also classified Gotham Knights for an age rating of 15 and above due to violence, occasional use of profanity, as well as depictions of alcohol and cigarettes.
If Gotham Knights does indeed release for the Switch, one area to watch out for will be how the game performs on Nintendo's nearly six-year-old console. Gotham Knights has been criticized for its versions on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S running at only 30 FPS, even after WB Montreal canceled the versions for the PS4 and Xbox One due to technical concerns. Questions about the graphical capabilities of the Switch have recently resurfaced with the release of Mortal Kombat 1, which received significant criticism due to its Nintendo Switch port and numerous graphical issues.
On the other hand, the Nintendo Switch has already seen many polished and well-received ports of games such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, so there is a good chance that Gotham Knights will receive a similar treatment, especially after the release of the Batman: Arkham Trilogy on the Switch in October. The current rating on the Korean website is another indication that WB Montreal's spiritual successor could potentially arrive on Nintendo's console in the near future.
Gotham Knights is available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
