Revaroom, a native Pokémon in Paldea, is unable to learn the move U-Turn, which some players perceive as a missed opportunity on the part of the Pokémon Company.
Revaroom is a Steel and Poison-type Pokémon that evolves from Varoom and possesses vulnerabilities that stronger Pokémon can exploit.
The discussion about Revaroom's inability to learn U-Turn has sparked conversations about other missed opportunities regarding moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
A player of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet expressed their thoughts on social media, highlighting that one of the native Pokémon of Paldea, Revaroom, is unable to learn the move U-Turn. They added that the Pokémon Company missed a golden opportunity to grant Revaroom this move. This discovery sparked a discussion among other players of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Some raised the question of how U-Turn is called in other languages, while others pointed out similar missed opportunities with other Pokémon.
Recognized as the Multi-Cyl Pokémon, Revaroom is a Steel and Poison-type Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Revaroom evolves from Varoom at level 40 and can also be found in the wild areas of the Northern and Eastern provinces of Paldea. It can be encountered in Five-Star and Six-Star Tera Raid Battles, utilizing Tera-type moves such as Fire and Ground to counter its weaknesses against these types. However, Revaroom possesses a low Special Defense that stronger Pokémon can exploit, especially those capable of withstanding its physical attacks. Despite being able to learn moves like Gunk Shot, Iron Head, and Spin Out, a player of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet claimed that Revaroom is capable of much more.
Although Revaroom is one of the top Poison-type Pokémon in competitive battles due to its high Attack stat, a Reddit user named PEMDAB pointed out in the r/pokemon subreddit that Revaroom cannot learn the move U-Turn in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The author of the post claimed that Revaroom, with its design inspired by hot rod cars, should be able to learn moves that align with the theme of the Pokémon, including U-Turn. In a Pokémon battle, U-Turn is a physical Bug-type move with a base power of 70, allowing trainers to immediately switch their Pokémon out after striking the opposing Pokémon. This means that U-Turn can be used as an opportunity to escape from an unfavorable situation.
Some Pokémon fans spoke up to explain that the name of U-Turn in Japanese roughly translates to "Dragonfly Leap," which is why U-Turn is a Bug-type move. Other Pokémon trainers sympathized with the author's claim and stated that Gholdengo is in a similar situation, as it cannot learn the move Surf despite depictions of it using a golden surfboard made of coins. Although Gholdengo has lost significance in the competitive scene, it doesn't stop Pokémon fans from defending it and other underutilized Pokémon.
Nonetheless, U-Turn remains one of the top moves in the competitive Pokémon scene. With the upcoming release of the Indigo Disk DLC in winter 2023 for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, it remains to be seen whether Pokémon like Revaroom will undergo changes to their move sets.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are now available for the Nintendo Switch.
