Alone in the Dark has been postponed to January 2024 to avoid the "chaotic" release window in October.

Alone in the Dark is now scheduled for January 16, 2024. It will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. While the additional time will be used for fine-tuning, the publisher admits that the delay is primarily to avoid conflicting with games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2, as October is considered one of the busiest months in recent memory.

"Our goal is to stay as alone as possible in the darkness," says a statement from THQ Nordic, explaining that October was simply too crowded to proceed with the launch.

To honor this, the eerie horror game has been postponed to January 16, 2024, in order to unveil its horrors. This extension serves a dual purpose: it allows us not only to meticulously perfect the gaming experience but also to fully immerse ourselves in the remarkable releases happening in October.

Alone in the Dark is described as a "reimagining" of the first game in the series, which was originally released in 1992. However, this will actually be the third game in the series bearing the title "Alone in the Dark," as there was already a reboot in 2008. The 2008 reboot received mixed to negative reviews and achieved a Metacritic score of 55.

This attempt at an Alone in the Dark reboot is being led by a new game developer, Pieces Interactive. The developers have compared it to the recently released Resident Evil remakes, which were immensely popular. If it can truly reach that level, then long-suffering fans of the series will be in for a treat.

However, Alone in the Dark is not the only game that had to adjust its release date to accommodate the busy year. Perhaps the biggest example was Baldur's Gate 3, which actually chose to launch weeks earlier on PC to get a head start on Starfield. This adjustment proved to be very successful for the game, as it entered the top five most played games on Steam just days after its release. We will see if Alone in the Dark also benefits from avoiding competition with some of the biggest releases of the year, but for now, at least we have more free time in October.
