Among Us, once an obscure indie game, gained immense popularity in 2020 and continues to receive updates and improvements due to its rise in internet pop culture.
The latest update introduces a new map called "The Fungle," which will be released in October. It showcases an alien planet infested with mushrooms and unique tasks for the crew members.
Many fans are excited to explore The Fungle and hope to uncover hidden secrets.
The developers of the immensely popular party game Among Us have unveiled a brand-new map called "The Fungle," which is expected to be released in October. The InnerSloth team has been consistently updating and improving Among Us since its rapid rise in 2020, two years after its original release.
Among Us was released in 2018 as a relatively obscure indie title and received little mainstream media attention until 2020. However, the game then experienced a sudden and dramatic surge in the midst of internet pop culture after a variety of content creators started playing the game in livestreams and videos. Since its rapid rise, Among Us has undergone significant updates and improvements and has been ported to various consoles, mobile devices, and even VR platforms.
The latest major update for Among Us was announced during the September Nintendo Direct presentation. It was revealed that a new map called "The Fungle" will be added to the game in October. The announcement includes a short clip showing the iconic armless astronauts crash-landing on an alien planet infested with mushrooms. Hence the name "Fungle," a combination of "Fungus" and "Jungle." This mushroom-infested natural environment sets it apart from other Among Us maps, which tend to lean towards sterile, high-tech science fiction themes.
The narrative part of the video is followed by some gameplay footage of The Fungle, aiming to give fans an idea of what they can expect from the new map. Based on the glimpses shown, the mushroom-infested environment appears to offer a variety of new tasks for crew members, as well as several new mushroom-themed methods for impostors to sabotage and gruesomely eliminate their fellow players. Various features typical of all Among Us maps seem to be present in new thematically fitting forms, such as a massive telescope that functions similarly to the security cameras on other maps.
Although the Nintendo Direct announcement did not provide an exact release date for The Fungle, the fact that the map is going live in October suggests that fans won't have to wait long in any case. It remains to be seen whether the new map will contain any hidden secrets, Easter eggs, or hints at upcoming collaborations with other games or franchises, but it is reasonable to expect that players will eagerly search the environment for such secrets as soon as possible.
Among Us is available for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
