Navigating Shar's Gauntlet is a crucial part of the second act in Baldur's Gate 3, involving multiple puzzles and trials. Before you can even reach the trials, you must prove yourself by solving the statue puzzle to gain access to the rest of the Gauntlet. The instructions may not be immediately clear, but the shadows will guide you.
The followers of Shar dwell in the shadows, and these trials will urge you to do the same. Many of them require darkness to be your ally, and the statue puzzle is no exception. Here's how you reach the statue and progress through the Gauntlet, whether you actively seek it out or stumble upon it during your adventures.
How To Find The Gauntlet Of Shar
You will find Shar's Gauntlet by venturing westward from the Shadowgrove after the beginning of the second act. Once you enter the imposing structure in the upper western corner of the graveyard, you will solve the puzzle of the Thorm Mausoleum to access the elevator leading to the Gauntlet.
You will know that you have reached the puzzle when you enter a room illuminated by eerie purple light, with a statue of Shar in the center. As you approach, you will be thrown back by a force field, preventing you from reaching the Umbral Jewel to progress further.
Instead, you must find another way to reach the crystal, and darkness will assist you in illuminating the path.
How To Solve The Statue Puzzle
There are four corners of the room, and each corner has a lever to lower the lanterns hanging in the room. You must dim all the lights to make the path through the force field fully visible.
In the room, there are many traps that generate harmful darkness, so proceed with caution. It's best to send your most skilled character alone to disarm the traps, activate the levers, and solve the puzzle.
Once the lanterns have been lowered, you can dim each one individually to shroud the room in darkness. Markings illuminate on the floor, revealing a gap in the force field through which you can pass and seize the Umbral Jewel.
Sometimes it is sufficient to trigger traps or use a lever to darken the room enough, so you don't have to operate all four levers and dim all eight lights. If you have keen eyes, you can navigate through the puzzle swiftly without having to traverse the entire room.
How To Reach The Umbral Gem
Once the room is completely dark, switch to turn-based mode. Enter the gap in the east and make your way to the Umbral Jewel. When you interact with it, the lights will come back on, and a door in the west will open. Proceed with Shar's Gauntlet.
