Baldur's Gate 3: How to Save Alfira from the Dark Persecution

One of the most beloved characters in Baldur's Gate 3 is Alfira, the devil-blooded bard. She is encountered early in the game, and one repeatedly encounters her while searching for a cure for the tadpole parasite. Despite her vibrant nature as an NPC, the Dark Calamity weaves sinister schemes with her.

Playing a character aligned with the Dark Calamity entails consequences, and one such consequence involves Alfira when she arrives at your camp. Although your initial impulse may be to welcome her with open arms, it is advisable to reconsider. This serves as a cruel introduction to life with the Dark Calamity.

Who Is Alfira?

Baldur

If you are unfamiliar with Alfira, you can find her in the first act at the Druid Grove. She will be located slightly to the east, showcasing her musical talent on the lute. Engage in conversation with her to assist in crafting a song.

It is a heartwarming moment that leads to appreciating her. If you have already played a significant portion of the game, you will know that she will safely reach Baldur's Gate and pursue her dreams.

However, there is a dark and twisted turn of events during the Dark Persecution that forces you to prematurely break the harmonies, and (be fairly warned) it is not pleasant to witness.

Can You Save Alfira At Camp?

Baldur

Unfortunately, the short answer is no. Once she appears in the camp and asks to travel with you, her fate is sealed.

If you let her stay with you, she will be killed. If you send her away, your character will find her and kill her anyway while you sleep.

If you side with Minthara and the goblins, you cannot save Alfira. Rescuing her from the Dark Persecution in that scene will not spare her later on.

Either way, you will be faced with disposing of her body or confronting your group members. You can confess your guilt or lie your way out, but it is something your companions will not easily forget.

How To Save Alfira From The Dark Urge

Baldur

The only way to save Alfira is to incapacitate her in the Druid Grove. She is isolated, so no combat will be triggered.

Activate the non-lethal damage mode and deliver a few strikes with a melee weapon. She will be reduced to one hit point, and you can safely return to the camp.

In her place, Quil Grootslang will come to the camp and seek refuge. She takes Alfira's place in this cruel event and spares the Tiefling bard from harm.

Attacking the player character to kill them while Alfira is in the camp does not work. The group will end the day and wake up with Alfira's corpse as if the Dark Persecution itself had done it.

Should You Save Or Sacrifice Alfira?

Baldur

The decision to save Alfira is up to you and how you want to play your character. However, you will still receive the Death's Whisper Cloak as a reward, regardless of which of the bards you eliminate.

Otherwise, it doesn't make a difference, except that you will be missing one bard. If you like Alfira from a previous playthrough (or simply enjoy her character), it's worth putting in the extra effort to see how she develops in each act.
