Early in Act One of Baldur's Gate 3, the player has the opportunity to visit an abandoned temple of Selune, the deity of the moon, which has been taken over by goblins. During some exploration, you will come across a small chamber housing a puzzle - on the floor of the room, there are four circular plates, each adorned with four symbols representing full moons, half moons, and new moons.
The resolution of this puzzle grants you access to the deepest sections of the temple and serves as the gateway to the Underdark, an exceedingly perilous realm that should ideally be explored only once you have reached level four and gathered the finest equipment available on the surface. Otherwise, you might find yourself caught off guard and under attack by a bulette or some other unpleasant creature.

Where To Find The Moon Puzzle
The Moon puzzle is located in the Desecrated Temple beneath the Goblin Camp.
You can find it by opening the locked door in Priestess Gut's chamber (X:255, Y:-10) with a lockpicking (dexterity) check of DC 10.
Subsequently, you must either engage in combat against Gut and her ogre bodyguard or stealthily bypass them entirely.
How To Solve The Moon Door Puzzle
Prior to attempting the puzzle, it is advisable for the player to separate the other members of the group, as this prevents them from obstructing the manipulation of the circles.
To solve this puzzle in the Desecrated Temple, you need to rotate the panels in a way that all the new moons (black circles) are shifted downwards onto the panel illuminated by the light.
Every second circle should be filled with full moons (white circles).
Here's a step-by-step solution:
- Spin the top wheel once
- Spin the left wheel once
- Spin the right wheel twice
- Spin the bottom wheel three times
- Spin the left wheel once
Solving this puzzle will grant you inspiration points and experience points for each group member with the Sage background, such as Gale, for example.
The image above shows you how the puzzle should appear. Once this is achieved, the door to the Selunite temple in the Underdark will open.
