Baldur's Gate 3 now allows for the alteration of one's appearance

In August, Larian Studios unveiled that Baldur's Gate 3 would eventually introduce an option to modify the character's appearance, akin to their previous game Divinity: Original Sin 2. Now, it has become a reality with the addition of the Magic Mirror in Patch 3, granting you the ability to "alter the visage of your Tav at any given moment."

Unfortunately, the original characters cannot be altered. This means that Shadowheart cannot be bald, Gale cannot have short hair (why on earth would you even want that?), and Wyll's horns cannot be removed. A pact with the devil is a pact with the devil. However, you can modify the appearance of your Tav... to a certain extent.

You can modify your cosmetic appearance, voice, and pronouns, but not your species or body type. If you wish to do so, you will have to start a new game. The change will be activated tomorrow, on September 22nd, and Larian Studios is promoting it as the biggest update yet, offering full support for Mac users.

The new method for changing appearances is very similar to the one in Divinity: Original Sin 2. There, aboard the ship "The Lady Vengeance," you could find a large green mirror that allowed you to alter your appearance. Granted, in DOS2, you could also modify the appearance of your party members, but considering that modders "yassified" Astarion, it might be better to trust Larian in taking care of our team.

Although Larian has not specified the exact location of the Magic Mirror, based on DOS2, it will likely be found in our camp. Perhaps with Withers, as he has the ability to resurrect the dead, respec our characters, change our class, and summon mercenaries. It would make sense for him to also possess the ability to give us a haircut and perhaps perform a nose correction. After all, he is the leading cosmetic surgeon of Baldur's Gate, you know?

Patch 3 also includes full Mac support. So, if you've been eager to try out the biggest surprise hit of 2023 but haven't been able to do so because you play on an Apple device, now is your chance. It also offers cross-platform save support. Therefore, if you have already immersed yourself in the game on PS5 or Windows, you can retain your progress and continue playing on your preferred platform.

The only question that remains is whether the impossibility to customize origin characters applies to the Dark Desires as well. You can customize their appearance in the character editor prior to the game, aside from their background story, but technically speaking, they are considered origin characters. Perhaps they will be an exception to the rule.
