Baldur's Gate 3: Should you save Shadowheart or hand her over to the Mother Superior?

Baldur's Gate 3 is full of challenging decisions, and the House of Sorrow is a hotspot for choices and consequences. If you regret one of your decisions, your character can always interact with the Mirror of Loss and forget what you have done, but that doesn't mean you as a player will forget it.

If you want to avoid regretting your decision with Shadowheart but are not entirely sure which path is best, don't worry. The answers to all your concerns are below. However, if anyone asks, you received these answers through a prophetic vision.

What Happens If You Hand Shadowheart Over To Viconia DeVir?

Betraying Shadowheart is just as bad as it sounds. If you have even a hint of morality, this is objectively the wrong decision. But let's suppose you don't have a strong bond with your prickly companion, Shadowheart the hedgehog. What do you gain from betraying her?

Handing Shadowheart over results in two things:

1. You lose Shadowheart as a follower forever.
2. You skip out of a battle with Viconia DeVir.

A few Dark Justiciars will take Shadowheart away. Her memories will be erased, and she will become a blank slate.

From then on, it is assumed that Shadowheart will be tortured for several decades and controlled by Viconia DeVir. It is a cruel fate, but at least the members of the House of Sorrow will stand by your side in the final battle against the Elder Brain.

What Happens If You Refuse To Betray Shadowheart?

If you side with Shadowheart and refuse to betray her, you will have to fight against Viconia DeVir. Depending on the path Shadowheart has taken, this fight may vary slightly.

• If you chose the path of Shar, Shadowheart can recruit over half of the Justiciars to fight with you.
• If you chose the path of Selune, your party must fight every Justiciar in the room.

If you go down this path, you will keep Shadowheart as a party member, but there is also the possibility of obtaining the legendary shield, Viconia's Shapeshift Fortress.

You will also not miss out on a unique dialogue with the Hallowleafs in the deepest chamber, and Shadowheart's questline will continue.
