Despite the initial negative reception, Bethesda is determined to improve Redfall, acknowledging past games like The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76 that were enhanced after challenging launches.
The availability of Redfall on Xbox Game Pass is a driving force behind the commitment to improve the game, as it will be accessible to players in the coming years.
Several updates have already been implemented to address the game's issues, but there is still work to be done to make Redfall a more satisfying experience for players.
Bethesda is not giving up on Redfall, the cooperative vampire shooter that launched earlier this year with mostly negative reviews from both fans and critics. Prior to its release, Redfall was one of the most hyped new Xbox console exclusive games. The reputation of developer Arkane had fans believing that Redfall would be another high-quality FPS, but unfortunately, the game fell far short of expectations.
Redfall was mostly negatively reviewed, with many complaints about its performance, bugs, and uninspiring gameplay. To say that Redfall missed the mark would be an understatement. The game's poor reception resulted in a rapid decline in interest, but despite that, Bethesda doesn't seem to be giving up. According to Bethesda's Pete Hines, significant improvements are on the horizon for Redfall.
In a conversation with GamesIndustry.biz, Pete Hines pointed out how some of Bethesda's past games, such as The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76, were improved after a rough start. "Redfall is no different for us," Hines explained. Hines did not go into detail about specific improvements that fans can expect in Redfall, apart from the anticipated 60 FPS update, but he stated, "We will make it a good game."
One of the reasons Bethesda is focusing on making Redfall a "good game" is because it will be available on the Xbox Game Pass. As Redfall is a first-party Xbox game, it will remain on the Xbox Game Pass indefinitely, and as Hines puts it, "people who subscribe to the service in 10 years" could try out the game. The availability through the Xbox Game Pass could be the driving force inspiring the developers to turn things around for Redfall, although time will tell if these efforts will be successful.
After the catastrophic launch of Redfall, several improvements have already been made. There have been several Redfall updates that have fixed some of the game's biggest issues and improved the gameplay for those who are still playing it. Redfall still has a long way to go, and it will be interesting to see what else may be added besides the 60 FPS update to make it a more rewarding experience.
However, fans shouldn't worry that Redfall will prevent Arkane from moving forward with a new project. It appears that Arkane is working on a new game that will be more in line with the titles that made it famous. However, no further details about Arkane's next project are available at the time of this writing.
Redfall is out now for PC and Xbox Series X.
