Cameron Monaghan, the actor who portrays Cal Kestis in Star Wars Jedi, has confirmed that a third game in the series is currently in development at Respawn Entertainment.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor may have been released just this year, but Respawn has already made it clear for some time that there are further plans for the series. Director Stig Asmussen even admitted in March that he views Cal's adventure as a trilogy and that a third game would be possible if Jedi: Survivor sold well. Not surprisingly, it has sold well and has also performed well with critics, making the concluding part of the trilogy seem like a certainty.
While a new Star Wars Jedi game would obviously happen at some point, I don't think we expected it to go into development in the same year that Jedi: Survivor was released. But according to Cal Kestis himself, that's exactly what has happened.
As reported by The Direct, Cameron Monaghan appeared at the Ocala Comic Con 2023 in Florida, where he co-moderated a panel discussion with Tina Ivlev, the actress who portrayed Merrin, about their experiences with the Star Wars Jedi games. As shown in this video by YouTuber Saix_XIII, Monaghan revealed during the panel discussion that talks about a third game in the series have already taken place and that it appears to be in some stage of development.
Monaghan said, "We are working on the third [game] and we are in the process. It's a big undertaking, and there have already been some discussions. But hopefully, when all is said and done, we can create something really great for you again."
Monaghan's comments make it clear that even if the third Jedi game is already in development, it is still very early, as he mentions "some discussions." It doesn't seem to have entered full production yet (especially with the ongoing WGA strikes, which are apparently soon to affect the gaming industry as well), but it is evident that plans for the third game and the involvement of Ivlev and Monaghan are slowly being formulated.
Once again, this is not surprising at all, considering how well the last two games sold and how positively they were received by both critics and fans. However, it is surprising to hear this confirmation so soon after the release of Survivor. It is also worth noting that the third game will need to find a new director, as Stig Asmussen has been confirmed to be leaving Respawn and EA in the near future.
