We are only a few weeks away from the complete overhaul of the combat and role-playing game elements in Cyberpunk 2077. And with each new piece of information we receive about the Phantom Liberty expansion and the accompanying Version 2.0 update, they appear to be growing more ambitious, introducing new abilities and revising a few less popular aspects of the game. Now, fans are hopeful that these changes will also permeate the main campaign, delivering a fresh final boss battle to us.

Many fans of Cyberpunk 2077 are hoping for the battle against Adam Smasher - the final boss in the main storyline - to become even more challenging, fully utilizing the revamped combat system. They fear that it might become too easy to challenge him again with our newfound abilities if he himself does not receive any upgrades, especially considering that some players already found him sufficiently easy in the original game.

This conversation arose after Reddit user Blackwolf20978sb realized that it is highly likely for the major villain of Cyberpunk 2077 to receive an upgrade in the Version 2.0 update. Nevertheless, many players welcome this idea, even though it would make a subsequent playthrough of the main campaign significantly more challenging.

"I truly hope so," says Reddit user Viper_Visionary. "That guy is a colossal cyberpsycho armed to the teeth. His final boss battle was far too easy."

Others quickly agree. "When I first fought him, I was playing on the Very Hard difficulty," says ErikMaekir. "The sniper who appears about halfway through the battle gave me more trouble than Smasher himself."

This is indeed within the realm of possibility. We already know that the update will draw inspiration from the Edgerunners anime for its new ability system. And of course, in the series, Adam Smasher was a true end boss - so difficult to defeat that even the main characters couldn't manage it. What could be better than making his defeat a true challenge to make the revenge all the sweeter? Of course, this will be absolute hell for anyone who decides to take on Arasaka alone, but that's precisely the intention of this route, so it would all come together.

We will have a clearer understanding of what the developers have been working on when the update and expansion go live on September 26th. In the meantime, CD Projekt Red recently unveiled some of the changes, revealing that features such as increased level cap, new weapons, and relic abilities will be exclusive to the paid expansion and not included in the free patch. However, those of you who opt out of Phantom Liberty will still be able to enjoy the new ability system, vehicle combat, and much more.
