Bungie has adjusted the drop rates for Essence of the Oversoul in the Crota's End raid in Destiny 2 to make the arduous grind for the exotic auto rifle Necrochasm less tiresome.

Players are now guaranteed Essence as a reward for defeating Crota and completing all four raid encounters, in addition to increased random drop rates for each raid encounter.

The Master difficulty level of Crota's End, as well as weekly challenges for the raid, will be available starting September 19th, increasing players' chances of obtaining Essence of the Overshadowing.

Bungie has announced changes to the essence drop rates in the Crota's End raid in Destiny 2 and has revealed the release date for the Master difficulty mode of the raid. Crota's End is the third reimagined raid recently introduced with the Destiny 2 Season of the Witch.

Bungie introduced the concept of reimagined raids with the Season of the Splicer, where Vault of Glass was the first raid to make its comeback. This was followed by King's Fall, which was launched during the Destiny 2 The Witch Queen DLC, and eventually led to Crota's End. To make the experience of the Crota's End raid on the first day even more rewarding, Bungie introduced the exotic auto rifle Necrochasm as a guaranteed drop for players who complete the raid in Contest mode. For those who don't manage to do so, the process is now a bit more tedious as they will need to collect 20 Essence of Obscurity to obtain the weapon. However, Essence of Obscurity is a rare drop, making the grind for the weapon extremely laborious. To address this, Bungie is adjusting the drop rates for it and also introducing the Master version of the raid.

This was announced in Bungie's weekly Destiny 2 blog post, where Essence of Obscurity is now confirmed as a guaranteed drop for defeating Crota and completing all four raid encounters. Additionally, players will receive a guaranteed Essence for each additional complete raid completion during a week. To further motivate players, the random drop rate of Essence during individual raid encounters has also been increased. The icing on the cake is that players also have a chance to obtain all the Essence required for Necrochasm and its catalyst in a single run, similar to exotic drops from other raids.

Destiny 2 Changing Essence Drops in Crota

In addition to these changes, Bungie will also introduce the Master difficulty level of Crota's End in Destiny 2 on September 19th. Additionally, the weekly challenges for the raid will also be available on the same date, increasing players' chances of obtaining more Essence of Obscurity. Furthermore, players will need to complete all challenges in the Master difficulty level to unlock the Adept weapons from the raid, each of which will have two perks in each column.

In addition, Bungie has also announced that it will begin phasing out Legendary Shards in Destiny 2 starting from Season 23. There are also a number of PvP changes and additions that will be introduced with Season 23, including a new Iron Banner mode and a returning Crucible map.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
