According to leaked documents from the Microsoft vs. FTC court case, Dishonored 3 is currently under development.
Dishonored remains the most beloved franchise by Arkane.
There is a possibility that the plans for Dishonored 3 have undergone changes. Therefore, fans should temper their expectations until official announcements are made.
A significant leak has indicated that Dishonored 3 is currently in development. Bethesda's Arkane Studios is primarily known for its Dishonored games, with the first two Dishonored titles and the standalone expansion Death of the Outsider all being critically acclaimed. Although Dishonored is the most popular franchise by Arkane, the studio has also ventured into other games, yielding mixed results.
The 2017 game Prey by Arkane, while not as beloved as the Dishonored games, still had its fans. The games Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot from 2019, developed in collaboration with MachineGames, are widely regarded as two of the weakest modern Wolfenstein games. Deathloop from 2021 received much acclaim from critics and was one of the best-reviewed games of the year it was released. However, Redfall from 2023 was a complete failure, unable to maintain a significant audience and was heavily criticized by both fans and critics.
The history of Arkane demonstrates that the studio is indeed willing to venture into new territories, but its greatest and most consistent success has been achieved through the Dishonored games. Therefore, it comes as no surprise to learn that the studio will return to this successful formula for its next project. Through official documents leaked as a result of the Microsoft vs. FTC court case, it was revealed that Dishonored 3 is currently in development and was even expected to be released in the fiscal year 2024. However, it's important to note that the document was created at a time when both Redfall and Starfield were anticipated to be released in the fiscal year 2022, suggesting that plans may have been adjusted.
It is also entirely possible that Dishonored 3 has been cancelled, so fans should keep this in mind before getting their hopes up too high. Xbox and Bethesda fans will have a much clearer understanding in the coming years of how accurate the leaked document is when new games are announced.
Dishonored 3 is by no means the only unannounced Bethesda game leaked through the Microsoft vs. FTC court case. The documents also revealed that Bethesda is apparently planning remasters of Oblivion and Fallout 3, as well as a sequel to Ghostwire: Tokyo. The leaked documents also suggest that a new Doom game is in development, seemingly titled Doom: Year Zero. Although the leaked games could very well be in the works, the leaks themselves are not a reliable gauge of when they will be revealed or released, as the provided dates are clearly outdated.
Dishonored 3 is rumored to be in development.
