An Elden Ring player has discovered a peculiar coincidence where a weapon in the game, the "Death Ritual Spear," bears a resemblance to a similar weapon used by a powerful boss in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Both games are highly rated and share similarities as they belong to the same genre, but this connection seems more like a coincidence rather than a direct reference.

The weapon in question, the Death Ritual Spear, and the Divine Dragon's Sword are both based on a real Japanese ceremonial sword called the Seven-Branched Sword, which also appears in other Japanese games.

A recent discovery made by an Elden Ring player has revealed a peculiar coincidence: one of the weapons in the game, the Death Ritual Sword, bears a striking resemblance to the sword used by a powerful boss, the Divine Dragon, in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Elden Ring is full of secrets and small details that players can uncover during their journey, so it's not surprising that people continue to discover more about it long after its release.

Sekiro and Elden Ring are among the highest-rated games from FromSoftware. Sekiro was originally released in 2019, introducing the Souls-like genre to feudal Japan with a focus on intense action rather than RPG elements. On the other hand, Elden Ring was released in 2022 and refined the famous formula by essentially becoming an open-world game in the style of Dark Souls. However, it seems that besides belonging to the same genre, there is an intriguing aspect that connects these games.

An Elden Ring player named DIeGO3rr3 has discovered an amusing connection between Elden Ring and Sekiro. According to him, one of the best spears in the game, the Death Ritual Spear, bears a strong resemblance to the sword used by the Divine Dragon in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The Divine Dragon is one of the most challenging fights in Sekiro, as it is unique compared to most bosses, and its ancient sword is one of its most distinctive visual features.

In the comments of the Reddit post, some people helped to explain why this weapon could appear in both games, clarifying that it is most likely a coincidence rather than a direct reference. Both the Divine Dragon's weapon and Elden Ring's Death Ritual Spear are based on a real object, the famous Shichishito, also known as the Seven-Branched Sword. This is a Japanese ceremonial sword that was made nearly 2,000 years ago and presented to a Japanese empress, making it an important cultural artifact. The design can also be found in other Japanese games such as Monster Hunter, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, Soulcalibur, Okami, and others.

With the upcoming Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, it is likely that fans of FromSoftware will soon have even more interesting aspects to speculate about, as the expansion is expected to greatly expand the game. According to current reports, Shadow of the Erdtree could add new endings and be as substantial as two full-fledged DLCs. Currently, there is no official release date, but the expansion is expected to arrive between late 2023 and the early months of 2024.

Elden Ring is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
