In Starfield, you can encounter various organizations and groups. These groups will likely eventually ask you to join them. The question is, should you do it? Let's be honest, traversing the skies can be quite lonely. Joining a faction could help alleviate the emptiness (quite literally) in your spacecraft.
While it is not strictly necessary to join a faction, you should definitely consider doing so. By doing this, you gain numerous advantages and missions within your game, and each faction carries its own theme and message. Let's explore in this article everything you need to know about the factions.
What Are Factions In Starfield?
A faction is a group or organization of people who fight for the same belief and share the same goal. You will come across these organizations, whether you intend to or not. Factions provide quests and rewards.
The purpose of joining a faction is to delve deeper into the story, explore side quests, and collect as many experience points and weapons as possible. Each faction holds its own beliefs that are integrated into quest lines, such as a focus on exploration or coercion.
By completing faction quests, you can obtain unique rewards that would otherwise be unattainable through other means.
How To Join A Faction
There are seven factions that you can join in Starfield. Joining a faction is entirely optional. To do so, you must locate the headquarters of the respective faction and speak to the person in charge.
Each faction has its own space on various planets. You will need to travel to different stars in order to find them all.
Not every faction can actually be joined. You can only become a member of five out of the seven major factions in Starfield.
Joinable Factions |
Location | Information |
---|---|---|
Constellation |
Planet Jemison in the Alpha Centauri system. |
Committed to exploration and discovery. Constellation is one of the first organizations you come across. You are basically forced into this faction as part of the main story. Their quests involve exploring unfound territories. |
Ryujin Industries |
Planet Volii Alpha in the Volii system. |
A major corporation that is interested in increasing its sales and name. This faction can be seen as a selfish organization. Their quests involve sabotaging their competitors. You can find an advertisement to join them on a terminal in Jemison. |
Freestar Collective |
Planet Akila in the Cheyenne system. |
A Western-themed group that puts the law into their own hands. Freestar Collective has quests where you play a sheriff in a good-for-nothing town or something of that nature. The quest rewards for this faction are Western-themed, such as a Deadeye pistol. |
United Colonies |
Planet Jemison in the Alpha Centauri system. |
Military-based excursions. United Colonies focus more on security, control, and protection of the public. If you want to become a security guard or part of the army, this faction will explore that. |
Crimson Fleet |
The Key in the Kryx system. |
A morally gray league of pirates. If you want to deal with the bad guys, but not be a part of a corporate scheme, Crimson Fleet is your faction. Crimson Fleet is essentially a group of pirates and felons hiding out on an old prison station in space. |
Can You Join Multiple Factions At Once In Starfield?
The short answer is: Yes. Bethesda has made it possible for you to join any joinable faction if you wish. There are no negative consequences to doing so. In fact, you should do it if you are a perfectionist.
Joining multiple factions in the game will give you plenty to do, aside from the main quest and other non-faction related side quests. Eventually, you will have to visit all the planets, so you might as well join the factions of the different planets too.
