Final Fantasy 14 unveils new short stories to celebrate its 10th anniversary

Final Fantasy 14 has just unveiled a new series of short stories as part of its 10th-anniversary celebration. The first of these Final Fantasy 14 stories is now available, and the others will be released over the next few weeks.

On August 27th, Final Fantasy 14 celebrated 10 years since the launch of A Realm Reborn. The celebration brings a plethora of content for players to enjoy both in-game and outside of the game, including a special "Rising" event, in-game shop sales promotions, and contests.

Now, Final Fantasy 14 has unveiled a special series of short stories to be released for the anniversary. Tales Under the New Moon is a collection of four free stories that players can read to delve deeper into the hearts and minds of their favorite characters from Final Fantasy 14. The first story titled "While Azure Fades" focuses on Estinien as he relaxes with a bottle of fine alcohol and shares a peculiar vision of the final moments of the First Azure Dragoon.

At the time of release, only "While Azure Fades" is available, but a new short story will be released on September 1st, followed by two more on the subsequent Fridays. The themes and plots of these short stories will only be revealed upon their release, but players can possibly expect other beloved characters from Final Fantasy 14 such as Y'shtola, Thancred, or the Leveilleur twins. In any case, fans should make sure to have completed the main scenario quests for Endwalker before reading them to avoid potential spoilers.

It's not surprising that many fans are excited to read these new short stories. Even before becoming a Trust companion in Endwalker, Estinien was an incredibly popular character, and his presence in the short story delighted his fans. Some players are already speculating about which characters might appear in the upcoming stories and are scouring the text for clues that could reveal details about Dawntrail, the next expansion of Final Fantasy 14.

Tales Under the New Moon is indeed the eighth collection of short stories that Final Fantasy 14 has released in the past 10 years. Players can enjoy dozens of scenes that go behind the scenes and provide unique perspectives and background stories for the heroes and villains of Final Fantasy 14. Although there is no fixed schedule for the release of these short stories, they often appear after the major X.3 and X.5 patches or following the expansions themselves. Therefore, fans may possibly expect more of them next summer after the release of Dawntrail.

Final Fantasy 14 is now available for PC, PS4, and PS5, with a version for Xbox Series X/S scheduled for release in spring 2024.
