The producer of Final Fantasy 16, Naoki Yoshida, has confirmed that the game will receive two paid DLC expansions and will also be released for PC. In addition to that, a free content update was released today.
It's hard to believe that it has already been two months since Final Fantasy 16 was released, but as Naoki Yoshida emphasized in a special video message, that is indeed the case. However, Yoshi-P not only reminded us of how quickly time flies but actually announced a lot of new content in his video message that is planned to be released for the game at a later date.
The video message was shared on Twitter and shows Yoshi-P speaking on camera about the launch of Final Fantasy 16 and how the team responded to it. After mentioning that everyone in Creative Business Unit 3 has heard the fans' requests, Yoshida announced that a free content update has been released for the game. This update includes some new costumes and the ability to customize weapons with skins.
However, that's not all, as Yoshi-P also confirmed that the team has started developing two paid DLCs, which is something fans have been asking for since the game's release. No release window or date for the DLCs has been announced, but if development has just begun, it seems that we can expect them at the earliest by the end of 2024.
Lastly, Yoshida also announced that a PC version of the game is also in development, and that further information regarding it and the paid DLCs will be released before the end of the year. No release window has been provided for the PC version either, but it seems likely that it will be released before the two paid DLC packages.
This news shouldn't come as too surprising to anyone who has been paying attention to what Yoshi-P has been saying in interviews lately. He has already expressed interest in a DLC package that allows players to control Cid and even mentioned that the team wanted to work on a PC release but simply didn't have the time. Therefore, the question was not if, but when these announcements would come.
Now the question remains, what will the DLC packages actually focus on. As I mentioned above, Yoshi-P has already shown interest in a DLC episode featuring Cid, so that is one possibility for one of them. The other big possibility is an episode focusing on the only Eikon we didn't get to see in the main game, Leviathan, which fans have been speculating about for some time now.
