Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be released with nearly a hundred hours of fresh content. The Square Enix team is proud to announce many things to look forward to in the upcoming sequel to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The company has worked hard to build expectations for the continuation, and even the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Collector's Edition seems to be full of surprises. The prospects for the next iteration of this series are looking promising as the team continues to hype the release.
During the recent PlayStation September State of Play, Square Enix revealed the release date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Alongside that, the developers also unveiled a brand-new trailer showcasing many new characters and features that will be present in the game. While fans of the original game were already familiar with some things, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has shown that not all familiar territory may be the same as before. Old locations could also offer new experiences. And it is precisely there that three important members of the development team have made statements about Rebirth.
In three consecutive Twitter posts, producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Naoki Hamaguchi, and creative director Tetsuya Nomura shared messages confirming what to expect after the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Hamaguchi mentioned that the game's focus is on "free exploration" and referred to the existence of the world map. He concludes by stating that "almost 100 hours of adventure" await us. Kitase mentioned that familiar elements from the previous game will be present but will undergo many improvements. It was also confirmed that Rebirth can be a standalone adventure, but for those who need to catch up, a summary of the previous title will be provided. Finally, Nomura reiterates that Rebirth is the second adventure in a three-part series that fans can look forward to. New characters await the fans, as well as surprises that affect the fate of all.
The hints are promising, especially considering the positive reactions to the remake. Fans who desired a greater presence of Red XIII in FF7 Remake may possibly see more of the character, as Rebirth will be more open in terms of gameplay. In fact, Cait Sith and Vincent Valentine will also join the sequel, which will overall change the dynamics of the game. Having more party members would increase replayability.
Hopefully, despite the implied 100 hours of gameplay content, Square Enix can address an apparent weakness that most players had issues with. Some fans found the side quests in Final Fantasy 7 Remake to be a slowdown of the game's pace. While they increased replay value, some perceived them as filler material to prolong the gaming experience. If Square Enix decides to give more significance to the quests, especially with the increasing freedom and openness of the map, FF7 Rebirth could truly become the masterpiece it intends to be.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be released on February 29, 2024, for the PS5.
