The advancement of your units in Fire Emblem Engage is crucial to build your optimal team, but in this latest edition, it requires some strategic planning due to the initially limited access to Master Seals. As a prerequisite for promoting the class of a selected unit, you must determine who needs the Master Seals most urgently and when to use them.
You can apply a Master Seal to any unit that has reached at least level ten and is not yet in an advanced class. Given the mechanics of Engage, you would want to do this as early as possible, but you won't have enough Master Seals for all units. Since only a few are available every few chapters, keep in mind when you can expect to obtain Master Seals and which units will fall behind the most if they don't have one.
Updated on September 15, 2023, by Sean Murray: Obtaining Master Seals in Fire Emblem Engage requires some planning and a substantial amount of gold. That's why we have updated this guide with improved formatting to make it somewhat easier to know when and where to obtain the Master Seals.
Item Shop Master Seals
The first and easiest way to obtain a Master Seal is by spending gold at the item shop located in the center of Somniels Marketplace. The item shop becomes accessible after completing the fourth chapter and recruiting Céline, but your first Master Seal will only be available for purchase after completing the eighth chapter.
Chapter 8 | 1 Master Seal | 3 Second Seals |
---|---|---|
Chapter 11 | 2 Master Seals | 3 Second Seals |
Chapter 13 | 2 Master Seals | 3 Second Seals |
Chapter 14 | 2 Master Seals | 3 Second Seals |
Chapter 16 | 2 Master Seals | 3 Second Seals |
Chapter 17 | Infinite Seals |
Each Master Seal costs 2,500 gold and is included in the inventory along with three additional Second Seals (also 2,500 gold each). These can be used to change the class of a unit without promoting them (e.g., from an Archer to a Mage or from a Berserker to a Hero).
Map Rewards
In addition to purchasing your seals, there are also fixed locations on maps throughout the story where a Master Seal can be obtained. Typically, they are obtained by defeating specific units, but you can also acquire them by rescuing civilians or opening chests.
Paralogue: Mysterious Merchant (Anna) | Inside Left-Most Treasure Chest |
---|---|
Chapter 7: Dark Emblem | Defeat Hortensia |
Chapter 10: The Fell Dragon Sombron | Defeat Hyacinth |
Chapter 11: Retreat | Defeat archer on the escape point |
Chapter 12: The Sentinels | Save old man NPC and talk to him after battle |
Chapter 16 | Defeat Marni |
Chapter 17 | Defeat Veyle |
You cannot find or farm Master Seals in any other way, and all Master Seals stop appearing on maps after Chapter 17. Therefore, purchasing Master Seals is necessary to advance an entire team of units.
It is recommended, for this reason, to save or farm gold in order to have sufficient financial resources.
