He belongs to the lost civilization called Khaenri'ah, which was destroyed by the gods of Teyvat hundreds of years before the events of the game.

Dain used to be the captain of the Royal Guard in Genshin Impact but couldn't prevent the downfall of his region despite his immense strength. Some fans have noticed that both Aether and Lumine have unusual eye colors, suggesting that they might be possessed by evil forces. This could be one of the reasons why they are fighting against Dainsleif. Fortunately, players only have to wait a few more days to learn more about this story.
