According to a recent leak, version 4.1 of Genshin Impact will introduce an expansion of the Fontaine map, which includes new areas such as the Fortress of Meropis and an expansion of the Epitome Invocation.
The leaked video reveals that players will be able to explore an underground area behind the Epitome Invocation, which serves as a connecting tunnel to the upcoming Fortress of Meropis.
These map expansions are part of a larger plan, where rumors suggest that Fontaine will receive further additions in future updates. These include the Fontaine Research Institute and a dungeon in later versions.
A leaked video of Genshin Impact has revealed a new area that players can explore during the Version 4.1 update, adding more content to the existing Fontaine map. The HoYoverse role-playing game received a significant expansion to its game world with the release of Version 4.0, which introduced the fifth playable region, Fontaine. With the update, not only did the Court of Fontaine and the idyllic mountains surrounding the city become available, but Version 4.0 also introduced the game's first explorable underwater locations. Now, one of Fontaine's most iconic settings is receiving a new update in Version 4.1.
The Version 4.1 update of Genshin Impact is already heavily rumored to add the first expansion to the Fontaine map with its release in September. Leaks suggest that Version 4.1 will introduce the Fortress of Meropis, a massive prison within Fontaine that houses the most dangerous criminals of the region. The fortress is also closely connected to the Epitome Invocation in Fontaine, the main theater and courthouse in the Hydro-Archon region. Now, the Epitome Invocation is said to receive an expansion in Version 4.1.
A video shared by the leaker Himo_sino on the Genshin Impact Leaks subreddit showcases one of the new additions to the Fontaine map in Version 4.1. The update allows players to descend into an underground area with multiple NPCs through the large platform behind the Epitome Invocation. Reports suggest that this area will serve as a connecting tunnel between the theater and the upcoming Fortress of Meropis. The Version 4.1 update of Genshin Impact is expected to be released on September 27th.
The expansions of the Epitome Invocation and the Fortress of Meropis are just a few of several planned map expansions for Fontaine. Previous leaks have indicated that Fontaine will receive two more additions after Version 4.1, with the Fontaine Research Institute expected in Version 4.4 and a dungeon in Version 4.6. Rumors suggest that Liyue may also receive a new map expansion during the Fontaine cycle, with the Chenyu Valley expected to arrive in Version 4.4 as well. Past regions have typically been expanded in similar segmented releases, gradually adding new locations throughout their cycle.
The addition of a new area to the Epitome Invocation is expected to play a significant role in the story of Version 4.1. The Epitome Invocation is a central location in Fontaine for much of the main storyline of Version 4.0 and served as the site for Lyney's and Lynette's trial. The square with the opera house also houses the Fountain of Lucine, where players can convert their Hydro Seals into various rewards. One of the most prominent locations in Fontaine will become even more important for the region with the release of Genshin Impact Version 4.1 next month.
