Super Bomberman R 2

The sequel to Super Bomberman R from 2017 appears to be ready to build upon the success of its predecessor by enhancing the focus on party atmosphere and multiplayer gameplay. The sequel even includes a stage editor, which could play a crucial role in extending the lifespan of the game. Konami doesn't release games too often these days, but Super Bomberman R 2 should be a respectable addition to the franchise.

One of two Dragon Quest spin-offs set to debut on the Nintendo Switch in 2023 is Infinity Strash, an action RPG based on Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, a manga that has been in existence since 1989.

Based on what has been revealed so far, the game will generally cover the story of the source material, in which Dai teams up with a group of adventurers to defeat the Dark Lord. Infinity Strash is expected to offer fast-paced hack-and-slash combat and multiple playable characters.

Detective Pikachu Returns

Detective Pikachu from 2016 was and still is one of the more adventurous spin-offs of Pokémon. The story revolves around a talkative Pikachu who, together with his human partner Tim Goodman, investigates cases. The game has a cheerful tone, lovable characters, and relaxed gameplay.

The sequel, Detective Pikachu Returns, seems to be cut from the same cloth, and the Nintendo Direct trailer mainly highlighted the voice acting of Pikachu and the improved graphics.

Batman: Arkham Trilogy

With a vibrant art style and a homage to the Genesis releases of the series, which are still considered masterpieces, Sonic Superstars could be the return to basics that the franchise needs after the controversial games Sonic Forces and Sonic Frontiers.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Wonder supports up to 4-player co-op and offers six playable characters, including Princess Peach and Daisy. Announced for October 20, 2023, Super Mario Bros. Wonder appears to be Nintendo's big release for this year's holiday season.

Hogwarts Legacy has been dominating the gaming landscape since its release in February 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is also being developed for the previous generation of consoles and the Nintendo Switch, with the latter version debuting last. Considering that Avalanche's title is a fairly large and beautiful open-world game, it is surprising that a Switch port is in development. Only a handful of modern AAA third-party projects attempt to include Nintendo's console in their development, and Hogwarts Legacy will likely have to make some serious compromises to fit on the hybrid system.

The franchise's first foray into the RPG genre is widely celebrated as a classic and has aged well despite its 1996 release. Apparently, the remake will feature brand-new impressive graphics, at least according to the available footage. However, it is unclear whether the remake will alter the fundamental gameplay mechanics.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince
