Wave 6 of the Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe introduces four new playable characters, including Diddy Kong and Funky Kong, who have not appeared in mainline games since Mario Kart Wii.
The complete track selection for Wave 6 was not shown in the trailer, but it will consist of retro and original tracks. Fans are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the remaining tracks.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has become one of the best-selling games for the Switch.
Wave 6 of the Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe adds four new playable characters. The announcement was made during the September 2023 Nintendo Direct.
The Booster Course Pass was announced in early 2022, nearly five years after the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It promised six waves of new DLC content until the end of 2023, primarily consisting of tracks from older games and gradually integrating elements from Mario Kart Tour. Initially, only tracks were promised, with eight being released per wave. However, starting from Wave 4, new characters were also added to the already impressive Mario Kart 8 roster, expanding its size even further.
Wave 6 will feature the usual eight new playable tracks along with new playable characters. First, Diddy Kong and the infamous Funky Kong were shown, both of whom were absent from the mainline games since the beloved Mario Kart Wii. After the Wave 5 DLC of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, there were only two remaining character slots left in the roster, but the revelations in this trailer proved to be deceptive. In the Donkey Kong-themed segment, Pauline was introduced next, celebrating her playable racing debut in Mario Kart Tour. Finally, Peachette, a transformation of Toadette, was unveiled, having also made her kart debut in this game.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave 6 DLC Characters
- Diddy Kong
- Funky Kong
Similar to the previous waves 4 and 5 of the Booster Course Pass, the complete track selection for Wave 6 was not shown in the reveal trailer. However, the majority of the footage took place on the Daisy Circuit from Mario Kart Wii, based on its appearance in Tour and with a newly remixed theme. It is only a matter of time until the rest of the tracks are unveiled. As this is the final wave of DLC, it will be interesting to see which retro tracks Nintendo chooses and whether some original tracks are included as well.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has proven to be an incredibly surprising game. Despite being an enhanced port rather than an original title, it has become a bestseller on the Nintendo Switch, surpassing Mario Kart Wii as the series' best-selling game. As this surprising DLC expansion finally comes to an end, it will leave fans with unforgettable memories while setting high standards for the inevitable Mario Kart 9.
