A Minecraft player discovered a giant cat in their old save file, sparking nostalgia for earlier versions of the game.

The size difference in the cat is due to an update that separated ocelots from regular cats and made only the smaller cats tamable.

Although the giant cat is rare and doesn't provide any advantages, players can use mods to be able to tame ocelots again.

A Minecraft player was confused when they started an old save file of the game and discovered a giant cat. The amusing incident brought back memories for some players of how Minecraft used to function before certain updates.

Minecraft has been around for quite some time, and during that time, there have been significant changes in the game. The game receives regular patches and updates, ranging from small tweaks to large-scale changes. Some updates have added new mobs or types of blocks, while others have had a significant impact on existing elements. It seems that such a change could have led to this particular anomaly.

Reddit user 360Fanatic turned to the Minecraft subreddit to share their experience and seek answers after discovering a giant cat in their old save file. Upon starting the game, they were greeted by a massive cat that appears to be more than twice the size of the usual tamed cats in the game. The user placed the two variants side by side so that others could truly see the significant difference, and many other players reacted with amusement to the size of the giant Minecraft mob, comparing it to famous cartoon cats like Garfield, large cat breeds like the Maine Coon, or popular fat cat memes.

The obvious explanation for this phenomenon is that 360Fanatic's Minecraft save file was old enough to exist before the separation of cats and ocelots as separate mobs. The "Village and Pillage" update brought significant gameplay changes upon its release, including the introduction of regular stray cats and the alteration of ocelot behavior. Previously, ocelots were tamed like cats in the current game. However, after the separation, only the small cats became fully tamed and could be kept as pets. This particular tamed Minecraft ocelot simply transformed into a giant cat as the game's code changed, instead of shrinking to normal cat size or becoming a wild ocelot.

Although the ocelot-cat hybrid in 360Fanatic's game is peculiar, fortunately, it does not have any significant impact on gameplay. The update that affected ocelots was already released in 2019, which means that this particular giant cat has likely become even rarer. While the large cat doesn't provide the player with any significant advantage in the game, the comments make it clear that many players feel nostalgic for the time in Minecraft when ocelots could be tamed and kept as pets. Although this is no longer possible in the base game, the extensive modding scene of Minecraft offers mods that allow for ocelot taming. This way, players, whether they are nostalgic or have only recently started playing, can revisit that time and try it out for themselves.

Minecraft is now available for mobile devices, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and older platforms.
