Havik is the only character from the entire Mortal Kombat 1 roster that you need to unlock by playing. Interestingly, it is not Shang Tsung (pre-order bonus), General Shao, or any other relevant character that you would expect to be initially locked.
Havik is one of the most interesting and original characters in the history of Mortal Kombat. He cannot break his own limbs, instead using them to attack by grabbing his own arm or head. He also utilizes dark magic and can increase the range of his attacks by dislocating his joints. Learn how to unlock him and start shining in your battles.
How To Unlock Havik
Fortunately, you only have to play the game and complete the story mode to play as Havik.
This mode is the linear single-player journey that you have been playing since the reboot of Mortal Kombat in 2011 (also known as MK 9). It is a story divided into chapters, telling everything about the events with the familiar characters and new faces through cutscenes and explosive moments.
On this occasion, the story of Mortal Kombat 1 consists of 15 chapters presented in four acts. It takes approximately five hours in total to reach the credits, and this can be easily shortened by skipping all cutscenes and selecting the easiest difficulty level. This way, you can see the ending in just a few hours.
However, we would not recommend doing so, as the story can be quite entertaining. However, if you decide to skip some moments, you can then use the chapter select feature to replay any chapter you like.
Once you have completed the final chapter, you will unlock Havik and have him permanently available in your roster.
Shang Tsung is also a locked character, but unlike Havik, you cannot unlock him through gameplay. He was a pre-order bonus, and you have to pay real money to add Shang Tsung to your roster. (The exact cost is unknown at the time of creating this article.)
