The Mortal Kombat fans are delighted that Nitara is finally returning after 17 years, although they are somewhat ambivalent about her new design and hope that the "pirate" look from the 3D era makes a comeback.
Yesterday was a rather momentous day for Mortal Kombat fans, as not only was the final roster for Mortal Kombat 1 revealed, but we were also treated to an official glimpse of the beloved vampire from the 3D era - Nitara. What's even better is that Nitara is being portrayed in this timeline by Megan Fox, who appears to be having a splendid time in the role and delivering her utmost, which certainly cannot be claimed for previous celebrity performances.
As magnificent as it is to witness one of the most requested characters from the 3D era included in the roster of Mortal Kombat 1, I wouldn't blame you if initially you had no inkling that it was Nitara at all. Apart from the wings, this version of the character in this timeline exhibits a notably distinct design compared to the 3D era. Instead of appearing as a gothic pirate with imposing boots, she now possesses a warrior-demon design that bears resemblance to Ashrah's new appearance.
While many Mortal Kombat fans are pleased with the character's return, the majority of them appear to be somewhat ambivalent about the redesign. On the Mortal Kombat subreddit, Redditor help3509 asked the rest of the community for their opinion on Nitara's new appearance, and the results are somewhat mixed.
At the time of writing, the highest-rated comment in this thread is from Redditor Zetra3, who states that they are satisfied with Nitara's new appearance but also desires her original "pirate" look from the 3D era to be present in the game. Whether it's referred to as such or labeled as the "Kiss" look, the prevailing opinion in this thread is that fans want to see Nitara's classic design in the game, allowing them to utilize it instead of the new timeline design.
Apart from the desire for the pirate look, the reactions to Nitara's design are somewhat mixed. While some fans believe it is well-executed and admire the magnificence of her wings, others have pointed out the similarities between Nitara's outfit and the rest of the ensemble. The same open-toed shoes and metallic armor plates can be observed in other characters like Ashrah.
Specific complaints have also been raised regarding Nitara's new headpiece and hair, with several fans expressing hope that this aspect of her design can be swapped out within the game's customization and gear system. Despite these comments and the desire for Nitara's return to a more rebellious appearance, it appears that most Mortal Kombat fans are simply delighted that Nitara is back, even if she looks very different from the last time we saw her.
