The excitement was palpable when it was announced that Megan Fox would portray Nitara in Mortal Kombat 1. It appeared to be the perfect choice, particularly due to her role in Jennifer's Body. However, the tide turned when voice recordings and gameplay footage came to light. Now, some fans even go as far as to say that her performance is inferior to that of Sonya in Mortal Kombat 11.
"Oh Megan, my sweet summer child. She's definitely in for a showdown with [Sonya actress] Ronda. But Nitara is my girl, so I can't help but support her," expressed @EvelynnLuxe. "Megan Fox was by far the worst choice they could have made for Nitara," stated @AKemiyagaming. "In my opinion, Ronda at least sounded better than Sonya in Mortal Kombat 11."
For context: In Mortal Kombat 11, professional wrestler Ronda Rousey was cast as Sonya, bringing a piece of UFC into the series. However, it didn't pay off as her performance infamously came across as stiff, which was hard to ignore considering she played a significant role in the story. In a way, Megan Fox is now taking on that role in MK1.
The general sentiment in many responses and quotes is that the role should have been given to a genuine voice actor. Fox doesn't have much experience in this field, with her only previous credits being related to the Transformers franchise. "One would think [NetherRealm] would learn from it and actually hire voice actors for their characters, after all the criticism for casting Ronda Rousey as Sonya in MK11," stated @StillFail1ng.
"Prominent figures at the peak of their stunt casting game, folks," remarked @LowKeyWanKenobi. "There's absolutely no way people can think Ronda Rousey was worse than this," exclaimed @Myxtoven. "That's the reason why one should hire voice actors, not Hollywood actors for the sake of name recognition," declared @Snelldor.
Of course, not everyone despises Fox's performance as much as these players do. In fact, some even believe that she intentionally exaggerated her portrayal, embracing the cheesy charm that is inherent to Mortal Kombat.
"Remember, folks... MK is a highly serious franchise where there are absolutely no joke characters like Meat and Mocap, never," stated @Axel_Warlock.
"People, it's the story mode of Mortal Kombat, what were you expecting?" stated @spiderdudeussy. By the way, great username. "Oh, suddenly Twitter doesn't like camp anymore!" exclaimed @NebsGoodTakes. "I've already manipulated myself to enjoy this. You can't stop me," declared @TimDrakeWonder.
Mostly, her performance is not well received. Granted, that's just one line from an introduction to a fight, and we haven't seen how she devours the stage in the story (or the necks of people, since she, well, is a vampire), so it could be just that one line. But the fans are not hopeful.
