Nexus bans mod that removes Starfield's pronoun options and tells bigots to get lost

Like a growing number of role-playing games, Starfield allows you to select your character's pronouns separately from their body shape and other aspects of their appearance. It also allows you to choose pronouns like "they/them," so you can fly through the galaxy as a non-binary character. As expected, there were some people who vehemently complained and were unable to handle a single text box where you are asked how your character should be addressed throughout the entire game.

Now it has become more difficult for those peculiar individuals to ignore the pronoun options, as the largest modding website is banning all creations that remove them from the character editor. Nexus Mods has announced that it has already taken down such a Starfield mod and will continue to do so in the interest of "diversity and inclusion." They add that a mod that removes pronoun options does not promote a positive modding community and therefore is "not sad" to see the mod creator leave the platform.

Nexus Mods confirmed to 404 Media that it has removed the mod for Starfield pronouns. It acknowledges that some users responded to the decision with "hate, toxicity, and threats of violence," but this only reinforced their belief that removing the mod was the "best course of action."

Nexus Mods says, 'Hosting this mod was not for us, and it is definitely within our rights not to host content on our platform. We stand for diversity and inclusion in our community, and the removal of diversity does not promote a positive modding community [...]. Honestly, we are not sad to see them go.'

It's not surprising that at least one Nexus user attempted to remove the pronoun options from Starfield, considering the uproar they caused upon the game's release. As we reported back then, even a streamer went into an extensive rant against "DAMN PRONOUNS" and how Bethesda was trying to "bring us up to speed." All because of a quick pop-up asking for the character's pronouns, which is literally just an expansion of the old "male or female" options we used to have. Heaven forbid that role-playing games make it easier to play a role. Not to mention, it's not even addressed that presumably, anyone complaining about it also has pronouns, and the game can't read minds to automatically recognize them.

Let them cry as much as they want, but this is hardly a surprising decision from Nexus. They had already set a precedent by deleting a mod that removed the rainbow flags from Marvel's Spider-Man. It is evident that the site will not support such mods, so anyone who wants to share this kind of content will have to go elsewhere.
