Nintendo delivers unfortunate news for fans of Mario Kart Tour

Mario Kart Tour will no longer receive any further content updates; however, players can still enjoy a few more tours before this occurs.

The decision to discontinue content updates could suggest that Nintendo intends to focus on the development of Mario Kart 9; however, no official announcements have been made yet.

After launching on mobile devices four years ago, Mario Kart Tour will no longer receive any further content updates. However, there will still be a few more tours available for players to enjoy before this happens. Therefore, racers still have the opportunity to participate in and engage with Mario Kart Tour as long as it remains feasible.

Since its launch on September 25, 2019, Mario Kart Tour has garnered much enthusiasm from fans of the racing game series, eager to have their hands on the pocket edition of Mario Kart. However, throughout its runtime, the title has experienced ups and downs due to the presence of the loot box system in Mario Kart Tour, which has deterred many players.

A message has been sent to Mario Kart Tour players to inform them that the title will no longer receive new content in the near future. This means that after the specified date of October 4, 2023, no new drivers, tracks, karts, or gliders will be added. There are speculations that this decision is being made to shift Nintendo's focus towards the development of Mario Kart 9, but no official announcements have been made yet. However, there has been no mention of the mobile game being discontinued. The full announcement, which players received, was shared on Twitter by @OatmealDome.

Before the content runs dry, a few more tours will be released for the players. The Anniversary Tour is set to commence on September 20, 2023, followed by the Battle Tour on October 4, 2023. Even after the content is discontinued following the Battle Tour, a Halloween Tour featuring previous content will kick off on October 18, 2023. Whether there will be another Mario Kart Tour Christmas event remains uncertain.

When it comes to Nintendo and mobile games, the company doesn't hesitate to discontinue them if they are not profitable. In contrast to other Nintendo mobile games, the gacha game Fire Emblem Heroes has been a money-making machine for Nintendo, generating a revenue of 1 billion US dollars. In comparison to Mario Kart Tour, it doesn't even come close to its revenue. Mario Kart Tour suffered a setback when the gacha mechanism was removed from the game due to resistance from the player base.

Regardless of everything that has happened with Mario Kart Tour, it is still regarded as an entertaining game in the Mario Kart series. While it may be disappointing for some that the mobile game will no longer receive additional content, fans of the racing series can look forward to the Wave 6 DLC of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which will be released before the end of the year.

Mario Kart Tour is now available for mobile devices.
