Payday 3: Rush, Edge, and Grit, explained

Payday 3 optimizes its skill system by having most skills interact with one of three buffs: Rush, Grit, and Edge. By focusing on one of these bonuses to maximize the potential of your chosen build, you can greatly increase your chances of success in a particular heist.

Knowing what Rush, Edge, and Grit do - and what they don't do - is an important step in mastering the art of heisting in Payday 3. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about these crucial status conditions.

What Do Rush, Edge, And Grit Do?

Payday 3 Rush, Edge, and Grit, Explained

Rush, Edge, and Grit provide statistical bonuses when active. Rush increases movement speed, Edge deals more damage with your attacks, and Grit reduces the damage you take from enemies. Each bonus amounts to ten percent - significant enough to be advantageous, yet small enough that you're not doomed without it.

You can only have one of the three bonuses active at a time. If you were to receive one of these bonuses while another is already active, the second one will not trigger. For this reason, it's best to focus on a specific bonus and build your character accordingly.

Some skills check whether Rush, Edge, or Grit is currently active. The presence of these skills gives you even more reason to ensure that your chosen buff is active as often as possible.

If you have Edge, Rush, or Grit active, you will see an icon directly below your targeting reticle. The white border will turn gray when the effect fades.

How Do You Gain Rush, Edge, And Grit?

Rush, Edge, and Grit are granted by your character's abilities. The specific conditions for each bonus vary for each ability. Some abilities can extend a bonus by refilling the timer before it expires. Since the timer is typically quite short, it is crucial on higher difficulty levels to be able to frequently extend your buff.

While your specific build is up to you, try to focus on the following abilities to make the most of your preferred bonus:
