If a boss is too challenging, push them off a cliff. That's the best way to avoid a tough battle in Baldur's Gate 3, especially since you can distract them with dialogue and switch to another character. But if pushing becomes boring, there's still the path of Wild Magic, which allows a player to transform an exceptionally difficult end boss into a cheeky, hissing cat.
Spoilers for Astarion's questline in Baldur's Gate 3.
In Act 3, you can complete Astarion's questline by confronting the vampire lord, Cazador Szarr. He is exactly the conceited, arrogant, and egomaniacal monster that Astarion described, and he marks his vampire spawn with carvings for a ritual to gain immense power. You can have a little chat with him initially, but the path is clear - you will have to fight this guy. Being an undead creature striving for divine power, he is resilient and tough.
But instead of doing what many of us probably did, pushing him off the edge into the abyss, StandsForVice turned him into a cat. And in the screenshot embedded below, you can still see Cazador, in feline form, delivering his threats: "Our ritual is complete. Can you feel his blasphemous power?" Obviously, someone didn't get their cat food today.
Unfortunately, in Baldur's Gate 3, you cannot pet cats. Owl bear cubs and dogs are allowed, but not our furry feline friends. So, when Cazador (or 'Catzador') is transformed, you won't be able to give him a belly rub to annoy him. And something tells me that even Astarion's love for cats won't stand in the way of his bloodlust when it comes to killing his former master. That being said, if throwing a cat off a ledge or striking it with a barbarian's big axe makes you uncomfortable, Wild Magic can transform bosses into other animals.
"I also had it happen during a crucial battle," said J1nx5d. "I'm pretty sure I turned them into a sheep in the next round. Wild Magic in the game is really fun."
Wild Magic, as the name suggests, is wild. It is unpredictable, as random additional effects can occur when casting a spell. Sometimes these effects are incredibly advantageous, such as when a formidable boss is transformed into a harmless pet, and sometimes it's the opposite. "My wild magic resulted in a lot of civilians catching fire during the circus battle, so around six innocent people were burned who could have been saved," said TASSPAS.
Others share similar stories where their wild magic ignites powder barrels or transforms them into sheep, but not the bosses. However, if you're lucky, you might come across an encounter with Catzador.
