Paldean Tauros is an exclusive regional form in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, with three different variations. Finding all of them can be tricky and time-consuming, especially the first time around. In both games, Paldean Tauros is available either as a pure Fighting type or as one of two Fighting hybrids: Blaze Breed (Fire and Fighting in Pokémon Scarlet) and Aqua Breed (Water and Fighting in Pokémon Violet).
Tauros can be found in two different locations within the Paldean Wilderness, with some tricky nuances. It is quite straightforward to encounter a regular Paldean Tauros, and you will likely come across one during your journey. On the other hand, locating the hybrids proves to be somewhat more challenging.
Updated on September 19, 2023, by Alexis Campbell: This guide has been slightly adjusted to align with the release of the DLC for Scarlet and Violet. Hatching a Tauros in Kitakami will result in a Kantonian Tauros instead of a Paldean breed.
Where To Find Paldean Tauros
If you have only caught a regular Paldean Tauros or have only seen each breed in battle, your Pokédex can mislead you right from the start.
The spawn point for Blaze and Aqua Breed Tauros is not the same as the regular Paldean Tauros, which is commonly found in these areas.
- East Province (Area One)
- East Province (Area Two)
- Zapapico
- East Province (Area Three)
- West Province (Area Two)
Only after capturing a Blaze or Aqua Breed Tauros will your Pokédex update the map and display a more accurate spawn point for that type.
- East Province (Area Two)
- West Province (Area Two)
The easiest way to find these Pokémon is to travel to Port Marinada and search in the Western Province (Area Two) right next to the Pokémon Center.
How To Find Blaze And Aqua Breed Paldean Tauros
Paldean Tauros herds have a typical spawn rate of forty percent in their respective areas, making them relatively easy to find. They usually appear in groups of five and exhibit extreme aggressiveness upon sighting trainers. Once they spot you, they will charge towards you. This can sometimes make it challenging to select a specific Tauros if you encounter the one you desire.
When searching for Blaze/Aqua Breed Paldean Tauros in the Western Province (Area Two), you should be cautious of individual Paldean Tauros. There is a good chance that it may not be a Tauros at all, but rather a Ditto in disguise.
Blaze Breed Paldean Tauros
If you are in Pokémon Scarlet, look for a Paldean Tauros with a long, coiled tail that splits into three parts at the end, curved horns, and bright red markings in the mane around its head.
Aqua Breed Tauros
In Pokémon Violet, look for a Paldean Tauros with blue markings in the mane below its head, curved horns, and three tails.
If you feel overwhelmed by the number of Paldean Tauros in a herd spawn point and need some more time to observe the herd, it's recommended to approach one Tauros and engage it in battle. During the battle, you can use your camera to look around.
Once you have found it, you can engage in battle with the Paldean Tauros and try to catch it. However, be aware that the catch rate of Paldean Tauros is relatively low at 45/255. It is recommended to have an ample supply of Poké Balls and have a Pokémon with you that can inflict either the paralysis or sleep condition.
Since Paldean-Tauros is always male, a Ditto is a requirement for breeding. During breeding, each breeding of the original Paldean-Tauros is copied. Therefore, you can breed multiple Blaze or Aqua Breed Paldean-Tauros without any special items, but breeding a regular Paldean-Tauros will never result in a special breeding classification.
If you breed Paldean-Tauros and hatch the egg with the Scarlet and Violet DLC Expansion Pass on Kitakami, your Tauros will instead be an original Kantonian Tauros.
How To Increase Your Chances Of Finding Paldean Tauros
Blaze and Aqua Breed Paldean-Tauros are rare encounters (the standard spawn rates for these special types at the right locations are twenty percent or less), but eating a sandwich with specific fire or water encounter powers increases your chances of finding them.
However, with the power of sandwiches, it becomes relatively quick and easy to find these special Tauros (especially near Port Marinada). Currently, there is no Tier Two encounter power for fire or water types, but you can use the Tier One encounter power for any type to increase your chances.
To save supplies, these sandwiches are recommended.
