After the success of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it is highly probable that a sequel or a series of games in the same style will emerge, potentially showcasing past iterations of diverse regions and their distinctive creatures.
A Pokémon Legends game set in the Kalos region could potentially provide the long-awaited expansion of the background story, as the previous Generation 6 games did not receive a third version.
The thematic elements of 19th-century France, such as the aristocratic society, high fashion, and the industrial revolution, would enable a magnificent narrative and design in a Pokémon Legends Kalos game. Potential starters like Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie would wonderfully complement these themes.
After the success of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it appears highly probable that Game Freak is planning a sequel or perhaps even a series of games in the same style, where past iterations of various regions are visited, and the unique creatures found there are explored. Considering that Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduced a starter trio featuring Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott from three different generations, it is likely that a sequel will follow the same format. While current leaks and rumors point towards a Pokémon Legends Unova game, there is a strong argument for a Pokémon Legends Kalos game with its own trio of past starters from earlier generations.
Many fans were disappointed that the Pokémon X and Y games of the Kalos region from the 6th generation never received a definitive third version in the form of Pokémon Z, resulting in a significant portion of the region's background story remaining incomplete. Since Pokémon Scarlet and Violet seemingly missed an opportunity to bring players back to Kalos, a Pokémon Legends Kalos game would present the perfect opportunity to provide the region with the well-deserved expansion of its background story. Additionally, there are some existing starters from earlier generations that would be perfectly suited for players to choose in this type of game.
The Pokemon Most Likely to Be Starters in a Legends Kalos Game
The Kalos region is based on real-life France, which possesses a rich history and culture that could provide a magnificent setting for a story set over a hundred years ago. 19th-century France is associated with aristocratic society, high fashion, and the Industrial Revolution. Therefore, it is likely that a game set in the Pokémon world during this era would incorporate some of these elements into its design. With these themes and design inspirations in mind, there are certain creatures that would likely emerge as starters in this game, as they could align exceptionally well with these themes.
The clear choice when considering the thematic elements for a Grass starter in a Pokémon Legends Kalos game is Snivy from the 5th generation. With France's history of monarchy and aristocratic society, Snivy and its evolutions align perfectly with this theme, as Serperior is designed like a monarch and is even classified as the royal Pokémon. It would also present a great opportunity to give Serperior a regional variant that becomes a Grass/Poison type, alluding to the toxicity and cunningness of the French aristocratic society and personalities like Marie Antoinette, even though most snake species in France are non-venomous.
For a Fire starter in a game based on 19th-century France, the best choice would be Litten from the 7th generation. Cats are often associated with sophistication and elegance. Stray cats are also connected to urban environments, and a design of Lumiose City in the style of the Industrial Revolution could be the perfect home for roaming Litten. The duality of these associations would allow for an intriguing design for a regional variant of Incineroar, potentially incorporating elements of an industrial steelworker who undergoes a rags-to-riches story and possibly becomes a Fire/Fighting type as a result.
In keeping with the themes of French nobility and the 19th-century Industrial Revolution, the ideal Water starter for a Pokémon Legends Kalos game would be Quaxly from the 9th generation. Quaxly's styled hair perfectly aligns with the theme of French fashion and evokes the classic depiction of powdered wigs worn by the affluent elite of French society. Quaxly is also the perfect Water starter, as its final evolution, Quaquaval, could receive a regional variant based on the French emperor of that time, the infamous Napoleon Bonaparte. This would result in the Pokémon acquiring the Water/Steel typing.
