"Gwen Stacy is not part of our story," says the narrative director of Spider-Man 2

The narrative director of Spider-Man 2, Jon Paquette, has confirmed that Gwen Stacy will not appear in the game at all, emphasizing that she is "not part of our story."

One of the major innovations of Spider-Man 2 is the dual focus on both Miles Morales and Peter Parker, both in terms of the narrative of their stories and the ability for players to switch between them almost instantly while playing. However, for some fans, two Spider-characters are not enough, as many of them are wondering if Gwen Stacy will be added to the game, either with her Ghost Spider powers or even just in her human form.

Recently, TheGamer had the opportunity to test Spider-Man 2 at an event in London. Features Lead Jade King not only played the game for several hours but also spoke with Jan Paquette, the narrative director of Spider-Man 2. During the interview, Jade asked Paquette if the team had considered adding Gwen Stacy to the sequel, but unfortunately received the answer that she is not part of the story Insomniac Games wants to tell.

Paquette said, "You know, we constantly have conversations about all the characters. We are all fans of Marvel at the studio. And that's one of the great aspects at Insomniac, that we love ideas from everyone on the team. So, we get ideas all the time. But we also have to focus on what story we want to tell, and unfortunately, Gwen is not part of the story we want to tell. But who knows?"

While it appears that Gwen Stacy will be missed in this Spider-Man game, it seems that Paquette and the team are at least considering the idea and might include her in a future game. For now, though, it's probably best to lower your expectations and view Spider-Man 2 as a dual focus on Miles and Peter.

Interestingly, Gwen Stacy has not been mentioned at all in Insomniac's Spider-Man universe, despite playing a crucial role in most versions of Spider-Man (don't even dare to mention a canon event). This has led some to question whether she even exists in this universe. Even Insomniac Games themselves have hinted at this in the past, for example, with a random tweet saying, "Who said Gwen Stacy is dead in our universe?" This suggests that she could be out there somewhere and may not have crossed paths with Insomniac's version of Peter Parker yet.
