Rumor: PlayStation State of Play event is coming this month

Sony is possibly planning another PlayStation State of Play presentation in September, which fans are eagerly awaiting to get updates on games and potential surprise announcements.

The last State of Play took place in April and focused on Final Fantasy 16, while the PlayStation Showcase in June confirmed the rumor about the PlayStation handheld device and presented other exciting game announcements.

The recent announcement of a significant price increase for PlayStation Plus subscriptions suggests a possible introduction for an upcoming State of Play, as players eagerly anticipate further news and game trailers.

Sony may be preparing to hold another PlayStation State of Play presentation in September. So far, there have been only two such events this year, and fans are excited to learn more about some highly anticipated games and also to find out what unannounced surprises could be coming to the PS5 in the fall. The last State of Play took place in April and focused entirely on Final Fantasy 16, which was released in June after years of anticipation.

After the State of Play in April 2023, Sony held an extensive PlayStation Showcase in June, unveiling, among other things, the long-awaited PlayStation handheld device, which was then known only as Project Q. During the showcase, a number of other exciting announcements were made, such as the remake of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater and the release dates for Assassin's Creed: Mirage and Alan Wake 2. Additional games like Spider-Man 2 and Dragon's Dogma 2 received new trailers, and Bungie announced a revival of its first-person shooter franchise, Marathon.

Of course, the excitement over these presentations fades quite quickly, and players are always eager for more. But the only recent news that fans received is that the price of a PlayStation Plus subscription will be significantly increasing starting from September 6th. Industry insider Jeff Grubb mentioned on Twitter that he had heard rumors about an upcoming PlayStation State of Play, and this announcement of the PS Plus price increase seems to be a precursor to it.

All three tiers of PS Plus will receive a price increase, with the annual cost of a premium subscription, the highest tier, rising by a whopping $40. After this somewhat underwhelming announcement, PlayStation players are likely especially eager to hear good news from Sony. There are a variety of games set for release on PS4 and PS5 in September, including Mortal Kombat 1, Neowiz's Soulslike Lies of P, and, of course, Baldur's Gate 3, the RPG that has been breaking all sorts of records since its PC release in August.

However, the highly hyped and eagerly anticipated Starfield will be released on September 6th for PC and Xbox Series X/S, leaving many PlayStation console owners understandably feeling left out. A State of Play presentation could be just what they need to lift their spirits. In addition to trailers and release dates for games, many people are hoping to learn more about the PlayStation Portal handheld device because, although its price of $200 and some technical specifications have already been revealed, there is still no confirmation of a release date.
