Sonic Frontiers unveils new character themes for the Final Horizon update

Sega and Sonic Team have shared a preview of some of the songs that will be featured in Sonic Frontiers' third and final DLC update, set to be released later in September. The available content for Sonic Frontiers upon its launch is nearing completion, with just one last update remaining. This update, titled "The Final Horizon," is eagerly anticipated by many fans of the game. The biggest promise to the fans regarding the update was the addition of new playable characters to Sonic Frontiers, including Amy, Knuckles, and Tails.

"The Final Horizon" update will not only include new playable characters but also promise a brand-new story for Sonic Frontiers. The latest trailers for the update provide a glimpse of some of these elements, such as a possible new Super Sonic transformation, a brand-new version of the Supreme Titan, and even the task of the three playable characters, instead of Sonic, collecting the seven Chaos Emeralds. With the free update just a few weeks away, Sega has also released a video that briefly showcases some of the songs that will be heard in this DLC.

Released on Sega's official social media channels, this is a five-minute medley video showcasing the new songs of Sonic Frontiers titled "New Chapter Themes." The video is divided into three sections, each focusing on one of the three new playable characters. The first part is dedicated to Amy, the second to Knuckles, and the final part to Tails.

These songs were all composed by Tomoya Ohtani, one of the composers of the extensive soundtrack of Sonic Frontiers. They feature distinct vocal themes, and fans have noted that the songs evoke similar vibes to the final level "End of the World" in Sonic '06 or capture the feeling of exploration while trapped in the cyberspace. Praise has been given for each character receiving their own theme, which is highly appreciated by the fans. Many pointed out that this is the first time since Sonic Adventure 2 that these characters have new individual themes.

After the release of this video, composer Tomoya Ohtani and Sega revealed that there will be a second soundtrack release for Sonic Frontiers, which will contain 46 songs. This release is titled "Paths Revisited" and will be digitally released on October 2nd through streaming services, with a CD release on November 15th. Ohtani commented on Twitter that the majority of these tracks were composed for the "The Final Horizon" update and asked fans to look forward to listening to them.

Sonic Frontiers is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
