SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is coming to current platforms. What? Are you already playing it on current platforms? Well, despite its launch in January 2023, The Cosmic Shake does not have a version optimized for PS5 and Xbox Series X. However, that is about to change. THQ Nordic has revealed that the current generation version will be released on October 16, 2023, and if you don't own the game yet, you can now pre-order it through the links provided below.
A strong emphasis is placed on the fact that if you already own it, the update for the current generation in October will be free if you have a PS4 or Xbox One copy of The Cosmic Shake. This is a rarity nowadays, as upgrades were initially free for most titles at the beginning of this generation but are now typically associated with an additional charge of $10. Good news for those who already own the game, but for those who don't, keep reading.
The biggest change in The Cosmic Shake on newer platforms will naturally be the graphics. However, there are a few more enhancements coming to all versions of the updated game. First and foremost, there's a photo mode equipped with 19 different filters that you can apply to snapshots in Bikini Bottom. Additionally, there are two new costumes for all players in the updated version: King Doubloon once you've collected all the Doubloons, and Plush Gary once you've unlocked all the rewards. Furthermore, the PS5 version will also feature DualSense support.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake
In The Cosmic Shake, SpongeBob SquarePants has a mission. Together with Patrick, who has been transformed into a balloon, he must save his friends and Bikini Bottom itself.
If you're not familiar with The Cosmic Shake, the latest SpongeBob game turns the world of the iconic Nickelodeon character upside down after he and Patrick find themselves in this predicament through some wish-granting mermaid tears. Patrick accompanies you mostly as a balloon throughout the game, which was already the most visually impressive SpongeBob game to date, even without the upcoming upgrade.
The Cosmic Shake could now be the only game featuring SpongeBob in a leading role and set to release in October. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 was also supposed to be released in the same busy month but appears to have been delayed. Understandably so, considering it would have to compete with titles such as Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Alan Wake 2, and Assassin's Creed Mirage, just to name a few of the other games.
