Bethesda has quite a lengthy history of releasing somewhat flawed titles that offer all sorts of peculiar opportunities for players to exploit. Admittedly, Starfield is noticeably more polished than the studio's previous titles, but fans have already discovered a relatively straightforward method to acquire infinite amounts of money, evoking nostalgia for the good old days of tricking merchants in Skyrim.
If you're a big fan of Skyrim, you may be familiar with a glitch that allowed you to access beneath Whiterun and steal the inventory of all the city's merchants. For some reason, Skyrim stores the entire stock of a shop in a chest beneath the actual store, and anyone who manages to go underneath the map can acquire a vast supply of items and money without any consequences. It turns out that Starfield does the exact same thing.
A YouTuber named vNivara recently uploaded a video showcasing their successful attempt to go underneath the map in New Atlantis, and it's actually quite easy (thanks, PC Gamer). All you have to do is head to the commercial district of New Atlantis, cross over the nearby waterfall, and slip through a small gap in the cliff. From there, you just need to follow the video to find your way back to all the district's shops, most of which have an underlying chest waiting to be plundered.
While there are only a few chests to plunder, one of them contains a substantial 72,000 credits that can be repeatedly looted if you ever find yourself in need of cash. Unfortunately, these chests are only refreshed every 48 in-game hours. So, you'll have to leave the area, find a place to wait for a while, and then repeat the process if you want to plunder them a second or third time. It's certainly worth it for infinite money.
You also need to ensure that you are well-prepared to navigate effectively in the underbelly of New Atlantis. First and foremost, you must make sure you have a Boost Pack equipped with the Power Boost Pack modification, as you will need a lot of boosting to actually reach the area with the chests. Additionally, you need to ensure that you have Rank 2 in the "Boost Pack Training" skill to have extra agility.
Once you have both of those, you can cheat the merchants of New Atlantis to your heart's content, only your own moral compass can stop you. But that hasn't stopped Bethesda fans in the past.
