Starfield has received a lot of praise and is among the best-rated new game releases of 2023, but it also has some flaws, including an issue towards the end of the game where the scanner freezes for a moment when activated or put away.
Despite the technical improvements, Starfield still suffers from the typical audio/visual errors and glitches that are often present in Bethesda games. However, the scanner issue is more of an annoyance rather than game-breaking.
It is unclear what exactly causes the scanner issue, but it appears to occur after completing the majority of the main story content and faction quests.
Starting a New Game+ run seems to fix the issue.
Starfield has received enthusiastic reviews and is now among the best-rated new game releases of 2023. However, that does not mean it is entirely free of flaws. In fact, one of the game's issues only arises very late in the gameplay. Prior to its release, it was said that Starfield would be the most polished Bethesda game, and based on what the reviewers have said, the game has certainly lived up to that promise.
The Starfield reviews were mostly positive, and the game stands out as one of the best-rated new releases of 2023. While Starfield performs significantly better from a technical standpoint compared to Bethesda's previous games, it still has some issues that will hopefully be addressed in future updates. In addition to the occasional audio/visual errors and glitches that are common in many of Bethesda's games, Starfield also suffers from a more annoying problem, although it certainly doesn't ruin the game and is more on the nuisance side.
After playing Starfield for about 50 hours, I encountered an issue with the scanner where the game freezes for a moment when it is activated or put away. It doesn't drastically affect the gameplay experience of Starfield, but it does make everything feel less smooth. It is unclear what exactly caused this problem, but it only occurred after completing the main quest and all faction quests. Starting a New Game+ playthrough seems to resolve the issue.
Previous Bethesda games sometimes had the issue of running worse on certain platforms the more you played them, and it is possible that this may also be the case with Starfield and its scanner. However, it is also possible that the problem is attributed to something entirely different, and it is just a coincidence that the issue arises after completing the majority of the game. To get to the bottom of it, further testing is definitely required, but hopefully, it is something that can be addressed through a patch.
Now that Starfield is available in Early Access, many more players will be able to experience the game for themselves. As a result, it is possible that many more individuals will encounter this issue when completing Starfield's main quest and unlocking the endgame content. With more players, the likelihood of fans investigating this peculiar technical problem increases, and hopefully, it will become easier for Bethesda to address it with a patch.
Starfield will be released on September 6th for PC and Xbox Series X.
