Starfield has brought back the iconic voice actor of the Imperial Guards from Oblivion

When it comes to voice actors in Bethesda games, there are few more iconic than Wes Johnson. Not only has he lent his voice to some of the studio's most beloved characters, such as the charismatic Sheogorath, the enigmatic Lucien Lachance, and the murderous Mister Burke, but he is also the voice behind one of the most famous meme video game characters in the history of the industry.

Even those with only superficial knowledge of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion have likely heard the phrase "HALT, DA BLEIBT IHR, IHR VERDAMMTEN VERBRECHER!" from a friend or loved one. While Johnson may have voiced many characters in The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, none of them are as legendary as his portrayal of an ordinary Imperial Guard, and the phrase has secured its place in legend alongside other Elder Scrolls trademarks such as the widely known "arrow in the knee" and "finally awake" jokes.

After appearing in practically every previous Bethesda game, it was only a matter of time before someone discovered the character that Johnson voices in Starfield. The role he plays definitely harkens back to the good old days of running away from guards in the Imperial City. Head to the Volo system and land on the planet Polvo, where you will come across a settlement called HopeTown, where you can encounter Ron Hope, the CEO of HopeTech.

Although he doesn't speak as iconic lines as the Imperial Guards do, it's still quite amusing to hear Hope talk about "punishing someone by all the rules of art," considering the previous work of his voice actor. If you're not inclined to embark on the search for Hope, you'll be pleased to know that he is indeed an important part of an optional quest you can undertake. However, we'll refrain from delving into the story here in case you're trying to avoid spoilers.

It probably shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that Johnson has once again lent his voice to a character in Starfield. Even disregarding his previous work, it seems that Bethesda has made a special effort to incorporate as many references to Oblivion as possible, going so far as to bring back the voice actor of the Adoring Fan. If you choose the "Adored" trait during character creation, you will eventually be greeted by the Starfield version of the Adoring Fan, voiced by the same actor.
