Exploring the vast universe of Starfield requires both skill and discretion. Sometimes, the key to maintaining peace lies in navigating bustling cities and knowing when to holster your weapon - and it's not just about etiquette! A single misclick could anger important NPCs, put bounties on your head, or even turn entire factions against you, transforming peaceful planetary visits into hostile confrontations.
Although it is important, the game doesn't make the holstering mechanism very obvious and may leave you searching for the controls. If you're seeking clarity on how to safely stow your weapon and avoid unintentional aggression, this guide will show you how to do it.
How To Holster Your Weapon And Surrender
Using both the keyboard and the controller, you can holster your weapons by holding down the "Reload" button.
On the keyboard, you can do this by holding down the "R" key. On the controller, you can do this by holding down the "X" button.
To draw your weapon again, you can simply click both mouse buttons on the PC or tap the "X" button on your controller.
While you may want to holster your weapon just to declutter the screen (or to take a nice picture), there are times when holstering your weapon is the best approach to progress in the game.
When To Holster Your Weapon
It's easy to accidentally make a wrong click, and if you inadvertently commit a minor offense or hit a civilian or guard, you may find yourself being pursued by law enforcement.
Be warned that surrendering and negotiating will only work if you have committed a minor offense. However, if you commit something like murder of a civilian or guard, a bounty will be placed on you. If your bounty is high enough, you will be immediately attacked - both in civilized cities and in space.
If you're not interested in becoming a wanted criminal in the worlds, you should holster your weapon to surrender. After doing so, the authorities will attempt to approach you and initiate a conversation about the arrest.
