Starfield: How to Obtain Ship Parts

Space combat is a crucial component of Starfield, and players will encounter it no matter what they are currently engaged in. All types of quests incorporate elements of space combat, and players can also come across random hostile groups while exploring the vast world of the game.

While battling these groups, you will be attacked from various directions and often lose the shield of your ship, resulting in direct damage to its hull. If you wish to prevent your ship from being destroyed, you will need ship parts to repair the hull on-the-go. Here is how you can obtain them.

Through Space Combat Itself

Starfield How To Get Ship Parts

Of course, one of the best ways to obtain parts to repair your ship is by defeating the process that destroyed it in the first place. During space combat, you will battle against various ships that have their own shield and hull bars. Once you have depleted both bars, they will be destroyed and leave behind their cargo.

You can then approach this cargo within a range of 500 meters and target it by pressing the same button you use to target a specific ship. This allows you to examine its contents. Typically, you will find one or more ship parts, and these parts will be transferred directly to your inventory once you claim them.

You can also dock onto an enemy ship and enter their cargo hold to obtain these parts.

Looking For Certain Vendors

Starfield How To Get Ship

The previously mentioned first method of obtaining ship parts is completely free, but your ship may not always be in a condition to engage in combat. Additionally, you need to be fortunate that the ship parts are present in the cargo hold of the enemy ship. For such cases, you can visit specific vendors and spend some credits to purchase these parts.

The best merchants where ship parts are often found are the various outfitters in different cities. However, this may vary in your own gameplay as the inventories of the merchants are procedurally generated. Note that you will find ship parts under the "Aid" category. You can search for any merchant that offers aid supplies to find them.

Of course, you won't find ship parts at doctors or restaurant owners, even though they offer tools or equipment.
