Similar to any other open-world game by Bethesda, in Starfield, you have the freedom to explore and create your own experience after a brief introduction. Regardless of how you choose to play the game, a significant portion of your time will be spent engaging with the spacecraft of the Crimson Fleet or the Eclipse in outer space.
As you become more proficient in space combat, you will be able to board and take control of most of these ships. Once you have a new vessel in your arsenal, the first thing you'll want to do is rename it according to your preferences. Here's how you can accomplish that.
Where To Rename Your Spaceship
Once you acquire a new ship, you'll notice that the option to rename it is not available in the regular ship menu. The only way to do so is by flying to one of the main cities such as Jemison, Gagarin, Akila, Cydonia, or Neon. Upon landing in these cities and disembarking from your spacecraft, you'll need to locate a shipwright technician.
This technician allows you to purchase new ships, repair your current ship, or upgrade its equipment. To rename your ship, you first need to communicate your desire to do so. Select the ship you wish to rename and click on the button next to "Flight Check" located on the lower right side.
The "Flight Check" button can also be used to assign your weapons and check for any errors or warnings.
Within this menu, you will also find a button to rename your ship, which opens a dialog box in the center of the screen. Here, you need to press the "Rename" button again to highlight the name. Once it is fully highlighted, you can simply enter the desired name and then press "Confirm" twice to save it.
You can change the name of your ship at any time without having to spend any credits.
