The exploration of worlds is an essential component of the less primary, yet still significant gameplay elements of Starfield. You embody the role of a pioneer, a space explorer, a member of the Constellation; irrespective of your affiliations, your mission entails venturing forth to behold what awaits humanity.
Naturally, it wouldn't be quite as enjoyable if you weren't compensated for your exploration. This is where the exploration boards come into play. We will provide you with an overview of what they are and why you should keep them from the outset until you encounter a specific NPC who is willing to pay a hefty price for them.
How To Obtain Survey Slates
You will not start with empty boards or the like. You will obtain them at the end of each world you have fully scanned. However, the exact extent of scanning required remains an entirely different question.
The crucial aspect to consider is that identifying the resources of a planet or moon through a global scan on the starmap does not count in this case. That is good news, as you need to enhance a specific ability called "Surveying" multiple times to discern each level of rarity.
So, what do you scan? Essentially, everything else. When you are in scan mode on the surface of a world, you will come across listings for fauna, flora, and resources. The number of representatives in each corresponding category varies greatly between worlds; some are barren and possess only a few rocky resources, while others teem with animal and plant life. You will also need to scan features that you will encounter in "Unknown" map markers and the like.
By leveling up your "Scanning" ability, you gradually gain improved magnification and, most importantly, the capability to scan your targets from greater distances. This can truly be a time-saving advantage.
Once you have scanned each category to 100 percent, which will require multiple scans for each entry, you will receive your exploration board. The exploration board will be named after the world you are currently on.
The Best Place To Sell Starfield's Survey Slates
If you wish to have a few hundred credits for each of your exploration boards, there are many places that will purchase them, particularly the Trade Authority. However, if you desire to have around a thousand credits per board - assuming that sounds more preferable to you - sell them to Vladimir at the space station orbiting Jemison, the Eye.
You will only meet the guy after completing a few quests in the main story, "The Empty Nest." But it's not like these boards would take up much space in your inventory, so we recommend keeping all the early reports until you've spoken with Vladimir a few times. At that point, he will discuss his plans to gather survey data from across the galaxy.
There truly isn't a good reason to sell the boards anywhere else, and besides, you'll be contributing to a good cause. The Constellation is a better home for your discoveries than any rogue of the Trade Authority, that's for certain.
