Starfield: How to Sell Stolen and Recovered Ships

Starfield may paint the picture of a solitary galaxy as humanity gradually expands into space, but you will still encounter many of your fellow human beings along the way.

Whether engaging in numerous spaceship battles, acquiring a ship waiting to be claimed after eliminating all the nefarious spacefarers on board, or even being granted your very own star cruiser through hard work and determination, there will come a point where you'll want to sell, sell, sell. Fear not - it is a straightforward matter, albeit with a rather costly little caveat.

See That Ship-That's-Not-Yours? You Can Fly It

Starfield How To Sell Stolen And Reclaimed Ships

The process of acquiring a ship is quite painless. Well, it can be painful if the opposing forces are numerous and/or far above your level, but otherwise, it is as simple as eliminating the enemy (if there is one), reaching the cockpit, taking a seat, and setting a course. There are no identity verifications or the like. You are in the clear.

You can steal ships from the villains, but you can also steal ships from the good guys. If you fancy, you can hitch a ride home with unsuspecting astronauts, and we're not emphasizing this because it's an important part of this guide, but because it's truly mind-boggling.

Bring Your Ship To Servicing

However, there is a caveat to all this simplicity, and it's a significant one. Before you can sell a ship that doesn't rightfully belong to you, you must have it registered at a space dock. Speak with the chief technician - typically the one near the landing area in larger settlements - and request to see the available ships.

From there, press the button to switch to your ships, and the stolen ship must be registered for a significant fee. Of course, on the other hand, if the ship you wish to sell rightfully belongs to you - acquired peacefully or obtained as a reward for a quest - you can sell it for full profit. It already belongs to you.

Don't overlook the still considerable sum you can pocket if the ship is good enough to fetch decent coins. A powerful ship might cost around 10,000 credits to register in your name, which is certainly a substantial amount, but you can flip it for 20,000 credits and make a nice profit of 10,000 credits.

Consider saving quickly before registering the ship in your name in case you ultimately find that the compromise for the profit does not justify the loss of the ship!
