With the arrival of this morning, Starfield has officially become the biggest launch of all time for Bethesda Game Studios, boasting over 6 million players on Xbox and PC.
It probably won't come as a surprise to hear, but Starfield has been quite a significant event for Xbox. Prior to its release, it was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of 2023 and even one of the most anticipated Xbox games of all time. With positive reviews abound and seemingly dominating conversations across social media at the moment, it was evident that Starfield had made a remarkable debut for Bethesda, which has now been confirmed as a record for the studio.
On Twitter, the official Starfield account has revealed the tremendous success of the game – it turns out to be the biggest launch Bethesda Game Studios has ever had, with over 6 million players as of this morning. That's an impressive number, especially considering that Starfield only had its proper launch two days ago, following the commencement of Early Access on September 1st.
The Starfield Twitter account announced, "As of this morning, Starfield has already surpassed over 6 million players, making it the biggest launch of any Bethesda game to date." This statement was accompanied by a graphic that read, "Thank you to over 6,000,000 Starfield players." This number is bound to rise further over time, thus solidifying Starfield as a significant success for both Xbox and Bethesda – something that both companies were in dire need of following Redfall and Fallout 76.
This record-breaking launch shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Starfield has not only been one of the most talked-about games since its initial unveiling but has also received massive promotion from Xbox this year and stands as one of the console's biggest titles. Considering that Starfield is also available through Xbox Game Pass, it was naturally foreseeable that it would become such a significant event, as it currently is.
It is undoubtedly the biggest game Bethesda has released in a long time. While games like Doom Eternal and Deathloop enjoyed significant success and received a lot of acclaim upon their launches, there hasn't been anything quite like Starfield in a while. The last game with a similar level of anticipation was likely Fallout 76, which had a notoriously difficult launch and took a few years to gain momentum.
This is not the only milestone that Starfield has recently achieved. Yesterday, Phil Spencer confirmed that the game had surpassed over one million players across all platforms on launch day, which is a significant milestone for both Xbox and Bethesda.
