Starfield is currently a relatively glitch-free experience, which is surprising given Bethesda's history with problematic releases. However, that doesn't mean there are no bugs at all, and one player has stumbled upon an absolute gem that not only allowed them to purchase a fully functional space station, but also dismantle it and even land on a nearby planet. How they managed to do it? Not even the player in question knows.
Earlier today, it was shared on the subreddit that the Starfield player u/VeganSatan666420 has revealed that they somehow managed to purchase The Key, a massive space station that happens to be the headquarters of the Crimson Fleet faction (thanks to Windows Central). According to the player, they sold a stolen ship to the Crimson Fleet and then modified their home ship, which allowed them to register The Key as their own.
To make things even stranger, this player was able to tinker with the station's modules, switch them around, and change the layout of The Key as they pleased. Due to the size of The Key space station, they couldn't take it for a quick joyride through inhabited systems or move it even an inch. However, they somehow managed to land it on a nearby planet, causing a significant portion of the station to penetrate the ground.
According to our information, u/VeganSatan666420 is not using any modification that allows them to do this, and even they have no idea why the game allowed them to set the station as their home ship. It is most likely a crazy bug that made it into the final version of the game, which is not surprising given Bethesda's reputation for flying horses and floating eyeballs. However, perhaps Bethesda should consider offering space station construction as a kind of DLC, given all the positive reactions.
All we know is that if you manage to own The Key, you should definitely not sell it, no matter what you do. Another player named u/DeliriousDal explains that they also managed to purchase The Key but "sold it in hopes that it would somehow fix the bug." Instead, The Key was completely removed from the game, along with all the unfortunate souls and important quest givers who resided on board. Well, if they didn't want to be deleted, maybe they shouldn't have been pirates.
