We were all aware that Starfield would have a bustling page on Nexus Mods in its first week after release, but the dedication of the gaming community remains impressive nonetheless. We are only on the third day of the early access phase, and at the time of writing, a total of 334 mods have already been uploaded to Nexus, with 124 of them being shared today. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that some of these mods are already centered around none other than the captain himself: Todd Howard.
Even though we are three days away from the actual launch of Starfield, you can already adorn Starfield with Todd Howard's face just about everywhere. Whether he greets you at the start of the game or illuminates your path in the darkness, Howard is there. And it's always that one image of him, because, naturally, it is so.
To create the perfect living monument for Howard, you need not look any further than these three mods I have already found on Nexus. First, there is the mod titled "Todd Howard Logo And Splash Screen" by user Stargazer, which, as the name suggests, replaces the startup logos with the iconic game director from Bethesda.
"This is a simple mod to replace the logos and startup screen of your game with a few Todd Howard photos," says Stargazer. "I wanted to continue the tradition of having one of the first available mods be exactly what transforms our brand-new game into the man, the myth, the legend himself."
It has already surpassed 100 downloads, indicating a significant number of fans who are eager to see Howard's face every time they launch Starfield.
Next, we have one that disturbs immersion a bit less - the Todd Howard Painting Replacer by ronaldomoon. This mod creates an in-game homage to Howard within the Constellation Lodge. Admittedly, it replaces every painting with the homage, so it hardly aligns with canon conformity. Unless, of course, Todd Howard is also a game developer with a cult-like following within the Starfield universe.
Lastly, we have my personal favorite, the Todd Howard Flashlight Replacer. By turning Howard into your light in the darkness, the famous snapshot of the game developer follows you everywhere, at least whenever you whip out your flashlight. Certainly, it can break immersion if you forget you have it installed and then pull it out hours later, but that's up to you.
In the coming weeks, we can expect further tributes to Todd Howard on modding sites. Bethesda fans, after all, have to wait a while for new games, so this dedication comes at an opportune time. The PC version of the game is also being criticized for its optimization, which means that many will flock to Nexus Mods for performance improvements anyway. So why not show some love to these dedicated jesters while you're there?
